slur during last nights FCPS Board mtg

After watching the entire SB meeting, it's clear to me that there are no moderate SB members - even the oft touted McLaughlin. It took her forever to read her "inclusivity" amendment. I couldn't roll my eyes hard enough. When, exactly, will this SB focus on ACADEMICS??

The only people who use that term in a derogatory sense are people like me who grew up in the 80s and 90s where that was a common insult in middle and high school. She's way too old to have picked up on that lingo.

You cannot be serious.

That ... makes no sense whatsoever.

+1. Think about what she said. “WE cannot be so r-word”. The word was being used to describe people, not a process. And no one with any sense uses that word to describe a process when there are so many other non controversial words you can use.

I don’t know how anyone listens to or attends these meetings. Just a bunch of people who love to hear themselves talk. I deal with the types at work and nothing gets done. But everything must be talked about to death.

I couldn't believe the absurd minutia they get into at these meetings. She might as well have used a different r-word and said, "We cannot be so ridiculous." That would have been spot-on.

Had Schultz or Wilson still been on the Board, and used such language, there's no doubt the rest of the members would be rushing to introduce a resolution to censure them.

At a minimum, KKG will need to make a formal apology at the next meeting. Nothing less will cut it.

So, so true. We would have marches going on right now to oust a Schultz or Wilson if they had said something like this.

As someone who is supposed to care for all students, it is beyond inappropriate. The board wven did a resolution last year or the year before about how this word is a slur! She knows better even if she grew up with this term like many of us did in the 70s and 80s.

The PP who described the speaker situation above was wrong. John Foster said it wild be a speaker substitution despite the power of attorney and it would require a vote to suspend the rules. The parlimentarian agreed. Why didn’t that speaker identify herself as a substitute up front? Rachna read the rules very clearly that said no speaker substitution. They needed to follow the process and that’s whay they did.

Exactly, that's why she's racist.

I don't think that makes her "racist." It makes her race-focused.

And I do agree with the PP's statement. That is her focus. Disappointment. I voted for her to expand the racial make up of the SB... but I assumed she was more well-rounded. I was wrong.

"race-focused" implies she, as an elected school board member, skews her work based on skin color, which is by definition racist.

That is not even remotely close to what race-focused means. Just stop.

DP. The entire board is race-focused, which is why they all need to be voted out. Enough, already. Focus on improving academics for ALL children. No wonder so many families have fled to privates.

There you go. You voted for her just because of one of her immutable characteristic, not because of her qualifications as a SB candidate compared to others. (personally I don't know who the other candidates were, I was not even in VA that time)

Please don't do that again.

So KGG didn't vote for Reid?

This reminds me of Biden when selecting his nominee for SCOTUS
"On January 27, Biden reiterated his intention to keep his campaign promise to nominate a Black woman."
He basically disqualified many other candidates just because they had the "wrong" skin color.

Bleeding heart liberal here. She should be out, just as if she were a
Republican.
I do think it is funny that every issue comes back to politics for some people. Living rent free in your hateful brains since Bill Clinton.

Seriously?? Maybe take a look in your bleeding heart liberal mirror to catch a glimpse of your blatant projection.

KKG. Must. Resign.

I heard it and am shocked. I'm way older than KG and even I know, and have known for a long time, that you don't say that word. It's so offensive and hurtful. Never liked KG because she doesn't do a damn thing when you need her, but this is just so unacceptable. And in an educational environment. She needs to resign ASAP.

I'm a democrat. I just posted that she should resign. This has zero to do with politics.

Wait - academics? You want them to focus on academics??

In our schools???

How weird.

Schools are supposed to be indoctrination centers for the SB’s agenda of DIE: diversity, inclusion, and equity.

Don’t you agree with the current SB and new superintendent?
