| SEPTA is apparently fine with gamarra’s weak apology. Imagine their different reaction if it was a Republican. They really lost credibility with their statement. |
| I'm a child of the 80s and even though I understand why the word is problematic I still catch myself using it on occasion out of old habit. It just wasn't broadly considered offensive in the same way back then, and I never realized it was based on a reference to a specific group of people until ~10 years ago. I've since tried to remove it from my vocabulary, but occasionally it still slips out before I can consciously catch it. |
| Wow, that’s really bad. I was born in the 70s and I never use that word. |
I’m a child of the 80s and used the word extensively back then. It was used all the time in casual conversation through the 90s. Then I learned how hurtful it was. I stopped. It never slips out. I don’t even understand how that happens. How can a word like that just “slip out”? As someone with the same background, I am genuinely confused. |
So you’re in your late 40s and struggle to regulate yourself from using a word that is a put-down because you’ve used it so much. That’s beyond sad. |

Mental ret*** was a special Ed placement until 2007?2009? I grew up with a severely disabled sibling who had this IEP category in FCPS her whole time there. But we all know that it was used in slang as an insult and we know that word is wrong.
I don’t get why she can say it and it’s OK but if anyone said something racist, they’d be OUT. What if one of the white members said it? Would they be removed? |
| She should resign. |
Live footage of Dr. Michelle Reid after having to sit through that embarrassing no vote by KGG when she was approved to take on the job as superintendent:

| Just ask yourself what the response would have been and how absolutely outraged people would be on social media if a Republican had used that word. People would have been falling all over themselves in performative outage. A Democrat does it and it’s just mild “oh she didn’t really mean it” mealy-mouthed statements? GTFO. |
I am with the earlier PP. Saying it is not mean intentioned - it was just a widely used word growing up. I find it extremely easy now someone’s brain short cuts when not thinking deliberately and use a word that now I would not consciously select to use. |

“ don’t get why she can say it and it’s OK but if anyone said something racist, they’d be OUT”
It’s not the same thing. Plus it’s not like she called SOMEONE the R word. She said a situation was r-ed. yes not a polite society word now a days but I put it on the level of someone saying they were gypped vs on the level of calling someone fhe N word or a spic. |
Bleeding heart liberal here. She should be out, just as if she were a Republican. I do think it is funny that every issue comes back to politics for some people. Living rent free in your hateful brains since Bill Clinton. |
Dem here. She should resign. But at the same time and R never would and wouldn't apologize. ( I think of Al Franken here) But sorry, she should go and the other members should say what she said was wrong. And her apology is not an apology with the "but I was upset about xyz" |
Man, progressives are whack. |
