Because the poster is a DCUM snob, a-hole, you name it. Maybe their snowflake didn’t get in, maybe they did get in and assume better acceptances to come in the spring (news flash - they may be very surprised). Anyway, who gives a crap why they said that obnoxious insecure comment. |
| Yeah, your kids stars sound similar to mine and we can’t send him to Pitt if it costs more than UVA, even if he does like Pitt a lot more. |
That won’t happen your kid should be able to get merit aid from Pitt if stat good enough for UVA |
| Is the merit rolling too? DC admitted early September but nothing in portal on merit yet. Does that mean we’re unlikely to receive any? |
Merit is rolling (at least it was last year). DD applied in September, got admitted very quickly and got merit (80k over 4 years) two weeks after that. |
Thanks! I guess my concern is if we haven’t heard then the answer is none. |
the typical amount of merit aid Pitt has been giving the past couple of years won’t bring the oos tuition to the same as uva in state tuition. |
It’s my recollection from last year that they redistribute the money, also on a rolling basis. Like say the PP applied early to Pitt as a rolling safety, but will also apply ED to Tulane. When they get into Tulane and decline Pitt, the $80k they received will be redistributed to other applicants whose offers are still open. |
NP. COA for Engineering at UVA in-state is $46,000. Typical merit from Pitt will get you right there. https://sfs.virginia.edu/financial-aid-new-applicants/financial-aid-basics/estimated-undergraduate-cost-attendance |
You mean the Typical merit Is 10k? |
Correct. COA OOS for Pitt Engineering is $55,000+ and CS school $57,000 |
| DS just approved. School of Computing. App submitted 9/19. Hang up with SAT. School didn’t receive until 10/4. We're excited. Hopefully we can get a little merit. |
| Congrats. We are still waiting. Applied September 28th. Ststus still says pending but we received an email two weeks ago that said the application was complete and they were moving toward review. |
| In terms of rolling aid-- last year, FWIW, my DC applied in early October, was accepted (Dietrich) in early November, learned about $10K/year aid in January, visited for an admitted students day in February, and after that visit learned of admission to honors college. We liked Pitt (but would've liked to know about honors decision before visiting!); however, DC ended up elsewhere. |
Update - accept/decline buttons appeared today. No letter yet. But at least it’s not still pending. |
