DP…my DDs school is on the trimester system..school counselor submitted them 3 weeks ago. The second trimester grades won’t be available until early March…hopefully we hear from Pitt soon. |
My DC is waiting as well. Submitted in late October. |
I'm surprised you're still waiting my DD submitted on November 1st and heard back about 2 weeks ago. She's waiting to hear from JMU, hopefully in a few weeks. Which school is better for Engineering - Pitt or JMU? |
Engineering and the school the PP applied to may been different on schedules. I am the PP with a student whose app went to review on Nov 17, that was for Dietrich Arts and Sciences. |
Pitt is definitely better for engineering. |
| IN at Pitt. Offered guaranteed acceptance to Speech Language Pathology Masters program (just a way to keep our money funneling into the school!). BUT, when do we find out if she got merit money? Or is that it? |
Make sure there is not a letter attached to your admissions email. We did not realize one was there when my DC was admitted until someone suggested we check, which we did several weeks later! |
My DC’s notification of merit aid came a few weeks after their acceptance letter. Fwiw, DC was offered $20k/year and just turned down their acceptance so that money is back in the pot for Pitt. |
Ours came 3 weeks later. $5k/yr…now waiting to see if Financial Aid will make enough of a difference. |

Updating, DC got into Pitt, Dietrich
Application went to review Nov. 17, heard this weekend. No news yet on merit. |

When did Pitt evolve from a loser, shady safety to a sought after acceptance.
Money and perception and a decade of rejections from other top colleges. Tsk, Tsk. |
My relative is a NASA rocket scientist who attended Pitt engineering school decades ago. You have some odd bias there. |
| My DD applied 11/5 and just received notification asking for 1st semester grades. They make you list satellite campuses. I’m wondering if they are still considering her for the main campus. She has no AP classes and only a 1240 SAT. |
It has solid programs, a reasonable price and happy students. It has rolling admissions and is not bothered that a lot of strong students use it as a safety. As is often discussed on this board, a true safety has to be a school that there is a strong likelihood that your student will get into and that your student will be happy to attend. The bonus with Pitt is that you can know you have a good acceptance early and it relieves a lot of panic that a strong student might not get in anywhere because the schools that are a "match" have acceptance rates below 20%. Add to that its honors college and DC Tag, which provides an incentive for DC kids to go to out of state schools, it is better priced than many and provides merit aid. It ticks a lot of boxes as they say. |
Pitt has many fine programs. The health sciences are top notch |
