Perhaps we should debate whether those of us working with school age children, particularly those who are leading children and are in a position of authority should be held to a higher standard.

I’m certainly a sinner, but I take my position of responsibility seriously and live accordingly.

+1.

I’m a Navy parent and think he has been a wonderful principal. I’ve always felt grateful for his leadership at Navy, especially these last few difficult years. My kids love him. I’m deeply saddened by all this.

However, I’m astounded by the defense of this from fellow Navy parents I’m hearing, both here and in the community. I do not think it’s appropriate for him to return to Navy or any elementary school. Just like I wouldn’t think it was appropriate if it was another principal from a school I had no personal connection to. My personal feelings do not change the circumstances and the consequences.

Zero.

—an FCPS principal

If the community wanted him back though?

Seriously? Still zero.

Define “the community.”

Sadly, I agree with you.

No one is casting any stones at him. He is receiving appropriate consequences under the law. If convicted, Item N would justify his dismissal from employment in FCPS: https://go.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/files/8KNHE54811F8/$file/R4293.pdf

No one is suggesting that he never be able to work again or be shunned from society.

It feels very much like he is being condemned here.

Signed, not a Navy parent but someone glad their mistakes haven’t been broadcast the way this is.

I would get fired from my job if I did what this guy did. It wouldn't be broadcast to anyone, but I would certainly be fired.

Maybe like 5% of them. Nobody that I have talked to thinks he should be allowed back.

Assuming you get everyone surveyed, you’re saying that 100% would want him back? Yeah, no.

+1 I think there’s a lot of wishful thinking going on at Navy.

Why is the school called Navy, anyway?

He is done. Done done done. He will not stay employed by FCPS and maybe he can’t be employed in Virginia at all. He’s definitely not going back to Navy.

And isn’t he still in jail?

Lest we forget:

Fairfax County police have charged a former elementary school PTA president with embezzling more than $180,000 during the five years she led the group.

Triantafilitsa Mattfeld, 48, served as president and treasurer of the Navy Elementary School PTA, now called a parent teacher organization, between 2001 and 2006.

I don’t think so.

Also, check out Melissa Tochterman. She was caught shoplifting at the local Target and is now at Herndon High I believe.
