Navy ES Principal Arrested

At least from the perspective of being principal, he has always been incredibly helpful and involved. My child was being bullied and he immediately took action. Even for the smallest concern, he followed up with a phone call, not just an email.

Honestly, most parents at Navy Elementary are extremely sad about this, and support him. We would all love him back once he gets through the legal process and of course gets help for himself. The day this happened, we had an off Friday. Who knows the situation? Perhaps relaxing at home and had too much? Either way, wrong actions and bad choices.

However, that does not undermine that he HAS been an awesome principal and never displayed any reason for concern at school…

+1 Another Navy parent here and everyone I've spoken to would welcome him back with open arms.

+1 same. It’s devastating news. My kids adore him. He is one of the most proactive and caring school personnel we’ve ever encountered. I hope we get him back.

-1 I’m a Navy parent and the parents I have spoke to have not felt this way. Some of us don’t want him back.

Please speak for yourself, not the entire Navy community. Not everybody would want him back.

You’re lucky. That was not my experience at all. My child was being bullied and very little was done. In fact, I had to follow up with multiple emails myself.

I’m a Navy parent and feel sorry for what had happened to Mr. Coch. He made mistakes but he was a good principal. Please stop attacking Navy ES.

Sounds like he is now on leave and unlikely ever to be reinstated. Actions have consequences, even in FCPS.

I didn’t see anyone attacking Navy?

Sorry, but the parents who want a Principal back who was blind drunk at 2pm such that he drove into a house are CRAZY.

The next time he gets drunk he could drive to school and run over one of your children. This is not a person you want around a school.

I'm sure he has wonderful character traits apart from the drinking, but there are things you cannot ignore. Drinking and driving, potentially around kids is one of them.

PP here. I think the prevailing attitude is that this is such a deviation from Coch's usual character that it must be a horrible mistake he wouldn't repeat. Then the question becomes how you weigh all the good things he's done for years against one very, very bad decision.

How do you know this was a one-off? Or even a deviation of character? Clearly he does have a drinking problem that he has perhaps hidden from his employer. This is not surprising for substance abusers.

+1 I’m a Navy parent and I 100% agree. It’s really sad, be I don’t think he should come back.

He must have been extremely drunk.

Yes. Apparently he lives a few blocks away. It was around 2pm last Friday when school was closed.
Thankfully no one was hurt.

What a mess.

Who is that drunk at 2 pm???

Someone who has a major problem. It’s really sad.

In most school systems, one incident is all it takes.

Especially given the bad press FCPS has had lately. I would be shocked if he were reinstated.
