Navy ES Principal Arrested

I went to an AA meeting with a friend in February and saw a prominent and respected middle school principal. We played poker in the same group together for years so I recognized him right away. He introduced himself with his full name and said it was his first meeting and he was on day 2.

I'm sure all of you work with someone with problems.

That doesn't excuse his actions and he should never work in FCPS again.

So people can’t get a second chance?

Exactly. Plenty of people have driven “tipsy” or drunk and never got caught. If they say they’ve NEVER done it, they are lying.

Probably low, but he’ll move to a neighboring county/state with a new admin job there.

Adult child of an alcoholic here. Agree that this principal should thank his lucky stars no one was seriously injured, seek treatment and a new career.

My late father drove drunk all the time. He’d drive me to sports practice, hit the ABC store, drink some vodka and be there at the end, trashed out of his mind. Repeatedly, for years. Yes, my mother knew and did nothing.
I wish my father would have gotten caught, but no such luck. Instead, he showed up for work the next day, looking sharp and fully sober and retired as a high ranking career military officer.

This principal needs immediate help. He should resign or accept his termination. Heal and then find a new career once committed to complete sobriety.

I’ve never driven after drinking in my entire life.

PP/adult child of an alcoholic. Never done it. Never will. Also a teetotaler for 20+ years.

+1 and I don’t want a principal who does this either.

He will get a second chance... somewhere else.

Perhaps we should debate whether those of us working with school age children, particularly those who are leading children and are in a position of authority should be held to a higher standard.

I’m certainly a sinner, but I take my position of responsibility seriously and live accordingly.

Did those people drive into a house? Do some type of property damage? Hit a person? This person crashed. They did damage to property. That is not a little tipsy. He got caught because he crashed.

Zero.

—an FCPS principal

No one is casting any stones at him. He is receiving appropriate consequences under the law. If convicted, Item N would justify his dismissal from employment in FCPS: https://go.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/files/8KNHE54811F8/$file/R4293.pdf

No one is suggesting that he never be able to work again or be shunned from society.

If the community wanted him back though?

It feels very much like he is being condemned here.

Signed, not a Navy parent but someone glad their mistakes haven’t been broadcast the way this is.
