Married women with children made up 56% of abortions

96% of abortions are happening by week 16.
Gender selection just isn’t happening here.

Don't be silly, CVS can tell you at week 10.

DP. You think all these women were getting CVS before abortions? Are you serious?

"CVS testing is not a standard part of prenatal care. Your healthcare provider may offer this option if you have certain risk factors, abnormalities detected on early ultrasounds or abnormal genetic (vs blood) screening." ( https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diagnostics/4028-chorionic-villus-sampling-for-prenatal-diagnosis )

It's not covered by insurance, unless medically indicated (and sometimes not then). Nobody is paying for this out of pocket so they can abort the non-chosen gender. WTF is wrong with you.

I'm not saying a damn thing about "these women". I don't really know who you mean, anyway.

I'm just correcting your erroneous statement that the baby's sex cannot be surmised till week 18, because it can.

I've had CVS three times and insurance paid every time, but then again, I have a cadillac.

Along these lines:

I Had an Abortion and Kept Silent. No More.
...
I've shared the joys, pride, and fear of being a mother to two daughters with all who know me. I’ve shared the story of the miscarriage I had between my girls’ births with family and friends because they knew I was pregnant, and then I wasn’t. What I haven’t shared is the abortion I chose.

I had my abortion when I was 40 and a single mother. Was my silence due to shame? Embarrassment? Believing that it wasn’t anyone’s business? I guess it was all of those things.

I wasn’t raped. My pregnancy was a healthy one. I wasn’t destitute. I was a single mom of two young girls, making it work. My career was in a good place. A partner in a successful media firm, I served on boards and was involved in my community. My life was wonderfully full to the point of spilling a little over the brim. I just didn’t want to be a parent again. I recognize that my being able to afford the abortion puts me on one side of a widening chasm.

The truth—my truth—is that my life is so much better for having had that abortion. It allowed me to focus on my two daughters, my career, and my life. I don’t regret my decision, and I’ll never apologize for it to those who would like to dictate what women can and cannot do. But I do regret my years of silence and not sharing my decision with other women who might have felt less alone.

Are you people able to read?

It doesn't say anywhere that this 60% are married. It only says they already have children.

Jeesh!

At our clinic, an overwhelming number of abortions were obtained by married, 30-and-40-something women who already had a kid or a few kids. We heard the same stories over and over "My kids are teens. I cannot be pregnant again." "I can't believe I was so careless. My first pregnancy almost killed me and I can't go through that again." "My marriage is just getting back on good footing again. A new baby will destroy it all." And of course, "I don't want another kid. I'm happy with what I have."

And guess what? We even had several women seek out abortions who had previously been out front protesting with their church group and who would be back out there protesting again later that same week. You don't say anything ever. You don't make judgement. And why? Because it (was) their right to choose even if they loudly voiced against it to other women walking in.

I was there for 5 years total and to be frank, I don't even think I saw a dozen teen abortions in all those years. I never saw any under 18, that I'm certain of. Teen abortions were almost always 18-19 year olds and tied to post-rape.

Also, any woman who has had a D&C or even suffered a miscarriage will tell you that no, women aren't using incredibly painful and invasive procedures as birth control. It's just not happening.

And yet they use it for sex selection. Stop making women out to be saints. They will use abortion for whatever they want and you have no grounds to reject, no matter how vile the reason. Irony of all you calling out femicide when sex selected abortions is one of main reasons why place like china is missing an entire generation of women.

Where the f**k did that come from? And why do you think you should be the one to decide whether another person's reasons are vile and reject their decisions? Are you the person being asked to perform the abortion?

Ok so you are ok with abortion for characteristics selection (sex, height, intelligence, skin color). Got it. Who is advocating for a dystopian future now...

But hey, at least you are honest. But that is not a future I want to live in and will fight to my last breath to prevent it.

I do not believe that for one second!!

DP. According to a NYT article (no paywall on this one) which is based on CDC data,:

Six in 10 women who have abortions are already mothers, and half of them have two or more children, according to 2019 data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “One of the main reasons people report wanting to have an abortion is so they can be a better parent to the kids they already have,” Professor Upadhyay said.

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/12/14/upshot/who-gets-abortions-in-america.html

Can we at least deal with facts and not beliefs or feelings when we are talking about statistics?

Doesn't say "Married women"!

And, once again, the only real reason people are anti-choice: Children are the punishment for sex.

I think this is ultimately going to lead to fewer middle class women giving birth.

Why try for #3 if you already have two healthy kids and you can't get an abortion if the health care costs will bankrupt you?

Has it occured to you that those who had abortions for less noble reasons are less likely to share that info? People who abort for health reasons probably wanted the child and want to grieve and so share their stories. Not so with those who abort for reasons they think others may consider vain or socially unacceptable.

Even aborting because of health reasons can be considered socially unacceptable. "You only want a perfect baby!"

My question is always "Why would you want to force someone to bring a child into this world knowing that that child is unwanted, will be a financial/emotional strain, and/or have issues the parents are unprepared to deal with?

The answer? Always the same. "You shouldn't have had sex then." Because children are the punishment for sex. Such a heartwarming "pro-life" perspective, and yet it's always the bottom line.

Oh, for heaven's sake. You don't know what "DP" is, either.

Unimpressive, to put it mildly.

What’s going to happen now? Can these states afford all the sick and special needs babies?

GOP men clearly have no clue what hornets nest they are shaking here.

Why were you getting CVS, if not for medical indication? Were you selecting for sex, or something?

If it *was* for medical indication, then it isn't a very good counterexample, is it? As I said, it's generally covered by insurance for medical indication.

Can you read?

+1. Misery loves company, and there is no one more miserable than the matriarch of a large family (except, maybe, her eldest daughter). If she had to suffer for her faith, then everyone else should suffer for it too.

My insurance covers it on demand. I wasn't willing to carry an abnormal fetus so I had a CVS. It's very easy to get medical indication approved, fyi.

This needs to stop. Women like this should be called out both before and after they get the abortion loudly and to their church friends in front of the clinic.
