She clearly posted this on Twitter so she could virtue signal and get praised but it had the opposite effect.

That’s pretty obvious to me too. she was very wrong and should be disciplined. The patient was also a complete ass. However, two wrongs do not make a right.

And Twitter says she is being disciplined by the school.

Disciplinee for what? No one believes she intentionally did anything.

She missed the patient’s vein after they made a comment regarding her pronoun pin. How was that not intentional?

People drawing blood miss pretty often and if the patient was laughing and talking and distracting someone new at having their blood drawn, it's more likely to happen.

I would never condone intentionally sticking someone an extra time, but there is a certain irony if the patient distracted her with his own stupidity, it would be hard to feel sorry about that.

Posting what she did was incredibly stupid.

I’ve had people miss my veins even when I wasn’t mocking them (or even talking). It’s not nice (or smart — see the reaction here) of her to post about it, but frankly making fun of someone trying to provide you medical care isn’t very nice (or smart) either.

That was intentional.

This was not.

That said, she shouldn’t have tweeted about it. Bad judgement there.

Did you not read her tweet? Seemed pretty intentional to purposefully miss the vein so the patient would have to be stuck twice.

Can you quote where she said it was intentional? Did you read some other tweet than the one posted here?

Drawing blood is hard. Drawing blood from someone who is laughing and distracting you is harder.

LOL the only place this is making the rounds is conservative "news" sites. Also you posted this on YouBeMom last night, in addition to the tweet from Rand Paul's wife which is listed as a similar tweet to this. How many mommy boards are you spamming with your bullshit?

Hahahaha med students unintentionally miss veins and otherwise eff things up all the time. Having said that, the tweet leaves open the possibility it was intentional and is incredibly unprofessional. She’s really tanked her residency prospects or more and rightfully so.

So weird to think this is one person. I saw this on Twitter and I’m not OP.

It’s bad behavior. People already don’t trust doctors and this is just another example of why they shouldn’t. People don’t like the behavior and so the Tweet and news going viral as a result, your bizarre fantasy world notwithstanding.

Does it matter what source it came from? What this person did is wrong. Whether you’re on the left or the right.

Well, yeah.

I find it hard to believe a medical student actually posted this, but people do stupid things all the time.

If this is a real person and a real post I think her admission to medical school should be questioned/examined by the school.

+1 I saw it on Twitter also. Crazy behavior tends to go viral. Most normal people who saw the tweet thought she was awful which is why she had to delete her account.

This was my question.

Why wouldn't they?

How far do you want to take this? Can I wear a pin to work declaring my socially conservative worldview? Or one that says "Jesus is Lord"? Or does that courtesy only extend to those with more liberal views?

I don't get how wearing a pin showing that you are inclusive is political. It seems like a self-own, that you are therefore saying that conservatives = bigots? My grandparents were solid Republicans, were not bigoted against any groups of people, and would also have just thought it rude to not call someone by the name or pronouns they wanted to be called by. I don't see how this is a political issue.

Clearly this is up for interpretation.

Think of it this way. If you were an employer and somewhere down the line she made some medical error, this incident would lead some to believe it was intentional.
The issues here isn’t What provoke her, but rather her actions whether intentional or unintentional, and a unintentional her glee in having missed. It’s very muddy and I would be surprised if she stayed on the medical program or any residency program that would take her. It’s not that doctors and medical professionals don’t make mistakes, they do, The last thing you need is somebody may be making these mistakes intentionally.

Wake Forest has publicly stated that the student is “no longer involved in patient care activities “ so they clearly think it was wrong behavior as well.

Can you link to that? I can’t find it.

Now her full name, picture and all her credentials are online. Nobody will want to tough her with a 10 foot pole. I’m starting to feel really bad for her.
