Because no one lives there. You choose to take a vacation in a remote uninhabitable location - its on you when the going gets tough. Maybe we should extend cell service to the Sahara Desert as well. I don't mean to be a buzzkill here, but..... They actually are looking at adding cell towers and/or wifi to a lot of public lands, particularly around visitor centers and trail systems. In the middle of Death Valley or some BLM lands in Wyoming? Probably not, but the idea is that they want younger people who are blogging or live streaming to actually want to come to national parks or wildlife refuges and show them off on their social media. Your 15 year old is also much more likely to be happy about the trip to Yellowstone if he can text pics to his friends while he's there. Etc, etc. Granted, this was before COVID happened. Now that public lands, particularly out west, are absolutely flooded with people, they might try to dissuade folks from visiting. Back to the fiance- he totally killed her. Her poor mom. |

I just watched this TikToker do the Angel's Landing trail in Zion National Park (where this girl disapeared). The person literally says 13 people have died on this trail since 2003.
Maybe that's what happened to this woman or maybe something just as dangerous. Youtuber/Instagrammers try to do crazy stupid activities to get more views. If she and he tried to do this and died, its not his fault but he probably didn't want to admit to it either. https://www.tiktok.com/@monet.izabeth/video/7007375936052153605

I know about 10 people who have done or are doing the "van life" thing- ALL of them have or had a SPOT or similar device then they were traveling. A satellite-enabled device is a must in case of a breakdown in an area with no cell service- which is almost all parts of national parks in the west. (SPOT is even mentioned in Nomadland when the main character gets a flat tire.)
I haven't seen any mention on this sort of device in the news, only that they were in areas with no cell service. Assuming they had one, it should be pretty easy to determine where they were and how long they (or he) spent in various locations on his way back to FL. |
All SPOT does is allow you to send out a 911 SOS in case of an emergency. It doesn't send out your text messages in a dead area. It also doesn't allow you to connect to the internet or social media. If the boyfriend bought it, he can turn it off or log-in and tell it not to send a check-in or custom message to emergency contacts. He also doesn't have to give police access to his spot mapping. |
| You also have physically enable the emergency SOS or message out to family for spot. If its in your drawer or put up away where you can't reach it - it doesn't help you. |

I recognize this is an incredibly insensitive comment but help me out -
Are pics like what is on the missing poster staged? They are all so good. Does it take all sorts of posing and planning or is she just super photogenic? And I just realized I was in the Tetons/Yellowstone the same week they were supposed to be. |
Yes, they're staged. She's an influencer - or trying to be. |
| I do wonder if it’s a publicity stunt. |

She said she can't understand why neither Brian nor his parents have reached out to her in the aftermath of her daughter's disappearance.
'It's a very mysterious situation. We don't understand why he's doing this. Everybody's assuming the worst and thinking he's guilty of this. But I don't want to believe that. I want to believe she's just in need of help out there and that everybody needs to keep searching.' Because they're trying to figure out how to keep him out of jail until Christmas and after that - whether he'll 'only' be in jail for 15 years or for life. |
Apparently he's between 21-23 just like her. Her mother says they went to the same high school. 'They went to high school together. They were friends. They got back in touch and started dating,' she said. |

Reminds me of that guy in Jersey who strangled his friend and threw her body off a bridge. https://www.app.com/story/news/2019/06/21/sarah-stern-murder-killer-mcatasney-sentenced-spend-his-life-prison/1461596001/ |

The boyfriend/fiance has issued a statement through his attorney. What a bizarre, dry, terse, robotic statement. More like non-statement. So impersonal, calling her "Miss Petito", instead of Gabby. She was his fiancee for christ's sake! Guilty as sin.
And the Petito family statement in response is heartbreaking. How infuriating for them to read that absolute drivel from him/his attorney. https://abc7ny.com/gabrielle-petito-brian-laundrie-missing-woman-blue-point/11020206/ |
Someone posted this on websleuths: "The lawyer, Bertolini, lives in Bayport, NY, the same town where the Laundries lived (Gabby and Brian went to Bayport-Blue Point High School). Bertolini is a very general practitioner - the kind of guy you'd hire for a traffic ticket, not a serious criminal defense lawyer. I'm guessing he was someone the parents knew from their years on Long Island and not who would ultimately handle the case if charges are filed. That may also be why the statement was such a non-statement. It's the sort of thing you'd write if you were a temporary caretaker who didn't really know what to do but you know you need to do something because all of the major networks and national media are on the story and camped outside your client's house." |
Makes perfect sense. Hope the parents have enough money in their retirement accounts to hire a cracking criminal defense attorney for DS. Sounds like they'll need one. At the moment he's holed up in the family house while dad sweeps the driveway.
