Discrimination against Asians

"Who are you to minimize another’s experience? You don’t know what it’s like to be any other race, so how would you be able to know what obstacles they face?"

LOL
There are an awful lot of white folks here on this thread minimizing the experience of Asian americans and at the same time claiming to know what it is like to be black?

This is not true of very many other countries in the world. That is why everyone of all colors want to come here....for better opportunities
for their families than in their country of origin."

This is true, however the bar is set higher for some groups than others.

Who are you to minimize another’s experience? You don’t know what it’s like to be any other race, so how would you be able to know what obstacles they face?

Who are you to minimize Asian Americans’ experience and discrimination they face?

Not minimizing it, but unfortunately discrimination seems to be the status quo for most US immigrants, always has been. Asians aren’t unique. They are late to the game.

According to research from Princeton University, students who identify as Asian must score, on average, 140 points higher on the SAT (out of 1600) than whites to have the same chance of admission to private colleges. They must score 450 points higher on the SAT than African-Americans. This is the “Asian Tax” that some refer to and, while this research’s direct quantification of bias might be interesting, the fact that Asians have to do better academically than others to get admitted into selective US colleges shouldn’t come as a big surprise to anyone somewhat familiar with college admissions.

Uh, the numbers don't lie. Affirmative action lowers the bar for black people and raises the bar for Asians.

But 140 pts is nothing, SATs are pointless.

Not late to the game. Asians have experienced since the 1800s.

Pointless they may be, but it's the way the system is run.
If 140 is nothing than why don't white and Black people meet that standard? Oh yeah, the gap is 450 for Blacks which is not nothing.

She wouldn’t even know since media doesn’t even cover discriminations against Asians and whites only want to acknowledge blacks’ experience.

As have Irish, Italians, Germans, Jews, Catholics, Russians, Eastern Europeans, South Americans, Central Americans, Africans, native Americans......are you discounting these groups? Again, not condoning discrimination, but Asians are far from alone.

The media does not cover discrimination fairly.

This would be on the national news if this was white teens attacking a Black grandmother: https://abc7ny.com/woman-set-on-fire-elderly-attack-89-year-old-attacked-bensonhurst-crime/6333749/
(and there have been many similar cases not covered by the media)

And I must say, the even Black on white crime is not covered fairly. The hue and cry in the media is all about crimes against Black people.

The Dems are so focused on skin color, but we need to start talking about culture.

Amen. A person more dangerous than a stupid person is an ignorant stupid person who doesn’t even realize she is ignorant.

If having to score 140 points higher on the SATs is the worst that is happening, I don’t know? Is that noteworthy?

"The predominant construction of “diversity” in higher ed-
ucation focuses on race or, specifically, on
“underrepresented minorities.”6 It rarely explicitly in-
cludes socioeconomic (SES) diversity,7 and officials often
assume that SES diversity follows naturally from racial di-
versity, despite the overwhelming evidence otherwise.8
Yet many of the rationales for diversity on campus apply
with at least equal force to SES diversity. "
