agree. literally half the posts on this forum could be solved by people asking the coaches or clubs, but coaches and clubs can be irrational and crazy sometimes and no one wants blowback on their kid for having the temerity to ask "hey, who's the team manager" or "why isn't the team registered for any tournaments" in mid-August.

It is hard sometimes to get someone willing to do it.....but usually the club at least *asks*.

my best guess on the situation is the Club assumed the coaches would ask for parent volunteers and the coaches assumed the club would find or already found a volunteer for them

Hard for them to tell parents that they'll participate in the VIVA tournament when that tournament is being put together at the last second.
The TD being in charge of the Villareal tournament seems fi$hy to me

The TD decided all the tournaments the Herndon teams would play in all year, and actually pulled teams that usually play in Herndon's own tournament, Dulles Natl, out of that tournament to put into this one. Maybe there's a Player First explanation for it but it just seems very strange.

Did the TD (NA) or the manager (JLC) decide this? So if a team is playing in the Dulles tournament does that mean they aren’t playing in the VIVA one? I really hope so. Not interested in wasting a holiday weekend on a thrown together tournament.

And the Villareal teams aren't even required to play in it lol!

What I heard was all the teams were being put into Viva for a "club presence" (whatever that means). So some of the teams will do both, and that will be it for your two paid-for fall tournaments (worth $275?) Some of the girls teams might get refunds for lack of brackets.

The u13-u15 RL teams usually play in Dulles.. For some reason, they aren't in Dulles this year. That tournament is a direct fundraiser for Herndon but ends at u15.

The other older teams usually do OBGC or Loudoun. No Herndon team seems to be doing any pre season tournament in August that is not directly associated with Herndon (Dulles) or JLC ("organizer" of the Villareal thing).

I want to respond to those suggesting asking questions of the coach or TM. We have a TM without contact info in PlayMetrics. Weird! It’s like they don’t want to be contacted. I haven’t asked the coach a direct question because at DC’s age (HS) it is frowned upon for parents to intervene. Coaches only want to deal with players directly. DC hasn’t gotten any real answers from the coach though. I’m afraid that if I get involved, DC will be retaliated against.

For those who have identified the Herndon person as the tournament director for Villarreal, where did you find that? I looked and don’t see it. That is particularly troubling to me as I feel like there was a bait and switch. DC was assured before accepting offer of strong showcases.

It is really strange for the admin of club A to be the director of a tournament completely unrelated to club A.

I get not wanting to be “that parent” and possibly having blowback go to your player, BUTTTTT at some point someone is going to have to step up and inquire. Or just continue being in a state of confusion relying on forums for important information about your club. It sucks both ways.

The high school teams did do showcases last year at least on the boys side.

Last year, our dc's high school black (first) team played in these tournaments:
1. OBGC (August)
2. Bethesda Premier Cup (Nov)
3. Visit Raleigh Showcase (Dec) -TBH was really not a fan of this travel-mid December with Friday games in nc right around a ton of tests/projects being due
4. USYS Showcase (Jan)
5. VDA Showcase (Feb)
6. Jefferson Cup (March)
Most of the boys also play spring HS soccer for HHS and other schools nearby,

(and the Virginia State cup in Fall not sure if that counts as a tournament.)

All we have heard this year is the ViVa tournament which seems real sketch at this point. We would have much preferred to play in Copa Rayados or Rev Cup with a bid to VDA showcase.
