I never knew how dysfunctional Italy had become until now. |
If you think things are better here you are naive. |
Nah, Italy is one of those countries that is only considered developed because of tradition, not because of reality. |
Their infection rate became so high that severe cases overwhelmed the health infrastructure (this is my best understanding). That's why taking proactive measures to slow the spread could be so important. All these people cavalierly saying they don't care because they're eventually going to catch it are very short-sighted! The rate of spread matters a lot to how well we can treat people who need medical intervention (which may be as many as 15-20%). |
You want a long slow curve for this kind of stuff. Not a steep short one. Steep short really taxes the health system. Not good. |
Omg. Why isn’t the media using these stats? |
1. The hospitals were totally overwhelmed at first, so not enough respiratory support led to a large number of deaths. 2. Lack of testing in early days meant that some mild cases may have been missed in Wuhan. Other provinces were able to catch even the asymptomatic/mild ones. It looks like we won't be far off 1 percent including all the asymptomatic ones, unfortunately. So an order of magnitude worse that the flu. |
Anyone know what the numbers are if you take Wuhan out? |
