| The title says it all. I would like to try Orangetheory, but I am worried that it is too intense for someone just building up fitness, like me. |
| Bump |
| Well. The first class I pushed myself too hard and had to stop at the very end because I was about to yak. And I’m in decent shape although I had taken a 4 mo hiatus from working out. I went back the next week and it was much, much better. So my tip would be to push yourself just a bit - relative to your own comfort level and not vs what others in the class are doing. I’ve been going once a week for a few months and although it’s not enough to see any drastic changes in my body, my endurance is definitely up and I feel more motivated to do other stuff (ie go for runs, do 7 min workouts on my phone, etc |
| No! Just go slow. Walk on the treads. If they say 4% incline and you’re not feeling it, do 2. Pick up the lighter weights. Go slow on the rowing machines. Go at your own comfort zone. You’ll realize when you need to dial it up after a few weeks and can adjust |
| No, not at all. I go there now after a 1 year break and 30lb weight gain. I even manage to run the entire time without walking unless I'm told to. Even the running part at the VERY VERY most is 30min with some walking breaks. You choose your weights and row speed so it's all on you and how much you want to push. |
| Nope. There are ppl of varying fitness levels. Also, power walk and go at your own pace. Just be sure to show up early for the consultation to understand the workout. |
| Agreed with all the foregoing. Just go at your own pace, and don't feel bad if you aren't pegging the heart pace meter (my heart rate seems low by their calculations). We have been going semi-consistently since December, and now try to go as a couple twice per week. |
| No, the whole point of Orange Theory is to kind of move at your own pace. |
|
Not at all - just do what the PP's said....I followed all the instructions and couldn't move for a day or two! But then someone told me, just focus on trying to get into the orange zone and stay there. My incline and speed were both pretty low and I was able to get into the orange because I was out of shape. Now, 6 months later, I have to work harder to get there because I'm in better shape.
Just try not to compare to others. My "all out" run pace is another's "base," and I try not to let it bother me! Have fun! |
| Jumping on this thread..I need new sneakers. What type should I look for before starting Orange Theory. I’m not a runner yet. Trainer or running or something else? |
It really doesn't matter so you can go with whatever is comfortable for you. I've been wearing old Nike trainers. |
| I tried OTF for the first time this weekend after zero working out for the past 2 years and loved it. I would go early to have the staff walk you through how the gym and program work - that helped me feel much less nervous about doing it for the first time. |
| Rough estimate of how much this costs? There's a studio close to me and I'm interested in the 4x per month plan, but I don't want to try it and like it if I can't afford it. |
|
$120/ mo for 4 classes a month at the Tenleytown location.
You can do a free class and check it out. Agree with others that you go at your own pace. |
| Olney is $70 for 4 times a month. |
