Neither had time to put up their hands defensively. I wonder if Maggie thought a gun had misfired at first.

Bubba is the dog and it was not a bird. It was a chicken bone. Chicken bones are dangerous for dogs so I guess that is why they were trying to get it out of Bubba's mouth.
