Wuhan virus (coronavirus) arrives in the USA

Moscow also reporting its first case--Russia has not reported any new cases beyond their original 2 weeks ago. No details, but could also be related to Italy.

India also was stuck at three cases from a while ago. It now has two cases, one imported from Italy and another from the UAE. Spread to India could be a big deal considering all the back office it supplies for companies everywhere.

But also curious if it is here and there is no major commotion at any place so either it is here and lots of vry mild cases or few mild and very few serious that do not differ much from usual cases of tough flu or pneumonia with the same outcome rate.
1% death rate here, very possibly less, as new cases in China death rates are about .7%

If you’re just looking at numbers of confirmed cases vs number of dead, that’s woefully inadequate. Do you have any basis for your assertion?

Please do keep in mind that people die in the advanced stages of the illness. It take 2-3 weeks from when they’re infected to tell if they’ll survive. I’m sure the long term care facility will have more patients die in the next week(s).

That's really hard to implement preemptively since I have grandchildren who are always sick and, frankly, anyone could be an asymptomatic carrier of COVID-19. I think some people are just doomed. I guess I'll wait until they admit the first case in our area and then go into hiding.

Seriously, can you not avoid your grandchildren for just a few weeks?

My MIL is planning on going on a tour of Italy and then coming back and playing with my kids the next day. Yeah, no.

Different pp, what's YOUR background? I've seen plenty of actual doctors discussing it and none have calculated the numbers how you have been doing it. The official case fatality rate is around 2%. In Wuhan Province where they ran out of ventilators early on, the case fatality rate is 5% because critical patients could not be treated. That's where the US is headed in a couple of weeks because we're letting it spread just as the Chinese did in Wuhan at the start. We did not learn the lesson from their mistake and will repeat it. At this point, I would assume a 5% death rate can be expected until mass quarantine of the whole population is instituted. Those draconian measures have been shown to be the only way to slow the spread. It's highly contagious.

You've got to keep in mind that the residents of a long term care facility have health issues that require them to have in house skilled nursing. They are pretty sick to begin with and a virus like this tends to be the last straw for them. Their bodies simply are too weak to fight it off.

Most of us aren't in such a weakened state to begin.

Out of Italy to 34 countries in 2 weeks.

How is this not concerning the world? How long did Italy cover this up? It went from nothing to hot zones overnight.

There were so many mid winter trips to Italy, my child’s school was one of them. While they were there it went from zero to mass outbreaks overnight. The gov’t has to have known something was up until they couldn’t hide it anymore. It should be criminal to expose this virus to unsuspecting people for the sake of the tourism economy.

This is good news if the death rate is going down in China. It could mean that they are finding better ways to treat people. Do you have a link for this? This news would really be good.

I hope it’s real

I asked what basis you have for your assertion. You have none?

Feel free to look up the illness stage of hospitalization and need for advanced supportive care. There’s study data on it. It sounds like you would prefer to stick your head in the sand.

Why can’t we buy tests from China like we buy everything else?

But the same with the recovery. Takes time and will be more recovered to balance ststs.

Look at the current data, today...

Coronavirus Cases:
89,843
Deaths:
3,069
Recovered:
45,636

Second time I see number of recovered exceeding total recorded cases.
So now more recovered then sick.

Deaths number. is not increasing by thousands but by tens per day.
