The world should do something, maybe sanctions? To try and make China stop, permanently, these disgusting wet markets and the live animal trade.

This virus and all the loss of life appears to have been COMPLETELY unnecessary. I hope there is sustained global anger until China changes some of its ways

They outlawed them a few weeks ago.

I know, but they did after SARS and it wasn't permanent. This needs to be permanent and enforced or this will happen again.

If we are all going to get wiped out by a virus, I would prefer it not come from something so easily adressed

I am a teacher and my co teacher was traveling through Taiwan, Singapore and either Malaysia or Indonesia on our spring break a week ago. I am so worried and trying to figure out how to tel her to keep her distance.

One perspective on how this could hurt poor farmers (did not understand the complex economic reasons before reading this):

7 new cases in Northern Calif, including a husband and wife who appear to have gotten it in Egypt - https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/03/01/two-healthcare-workers-presumptive-positive-for-coronavirus-live-in-alameda-solano-counties/

Egypt appears to be underreporting cases as France and Canada also have cases imported from tourists returning from there. (officially Egypt says they only have ONE coronavirus case)

So now the hospital workers are infected. Jesus. Thanks CDC! Mishandled Ebola and now this.

Yes, I was just thinking that by restricting the testing for so long, they must have known they were putting doctors and nurses at risk, not to mention coworkers, family members, etc. That is inexcusable.

Just say "KEEP YOUR DISTANCE". Who cares if she hates you?

The CDC is a government entity. They don't work at lightening speed. When that nurse called them, said she was working with an Ebola patient, and HAD A FEVER? And they told her "sure, fly, why not"? That's all you need to know about the CDC.

I was one of the early adopters of coronavirus panic. I‘ve been following it closely for a month.
So here’s my question. Genetic testing in WA is showing that it’s been circulating in that state for 6 weeks.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/coronavirus-may-have-spread-undetected-for-weeks-in-washington-state/2020/03/01/0f292336-5bcc-11ea-9055-5fa12981bbbf_story.html
Even with a two week incubation period, shouldn’t hospitals in WA be overwhelmed by now, if it really has the 20% hospitalization rate reported in China?
Maybe I am massively misinterpreting this but my takeaway is, oddly, some relief. I don’t care if it’s been quietly circulating for a month and a half, if it turns out that it’s impact is NOT as dire as predicted.

Perhaps because it’s mild/asymptomatic for more people than we think. That’s why we shouldn’t get too fixated on specific %s.

It’s still early though. Lots of unknowns.

I wonder if they will close it for health reasons.

Seems like two negative tests aren’t enough. Texas patient released after two negatives, walks around and all, and then, third test positive...whoops...could Rasputin even shake this thing??
