US coronavirus cases top 10,000 and on the same or worse curve than Italy

She didn't give anything away. She did it on purpose. Because she is a master troll.

Did you see how VA was testing? lol
If you are tested three times, and your results are three positives, you're added to the dbase as three different stats.

This is blown out of proportion.

This is inaccurate or deflection. There's no reason to correct you because you don't care. You don't care about the worst pandemic our world has had in 100 years.

I am interested in what you think needs correction because I tend to agree with pp.
And, where do you get off making the statement in bold? Nothing pp stated leads me to believe that he/she doesn't care.

Because she's wrong. The "misclassification" of covid deaths is a talking point but it's wrong. Virginia hasn't changed how positive cases are counted, has changed how numbers of tests are counted.

When she's posting wrong information, I have a hard time believing that she cares about the pandemic. Only scoring points.

I don't know about VA, but I disagree with the bolded.....

https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/15/health/us-coronavirus-deaths-trends-wednesday/index.html
....Deaths will include those that are "probable" but didn't have a test. These could be anything respiratory related. Regular flu? Yep, Covid-19. Asthma? Yep. Covid-19
https://www.medpagetoday.com/infectiousdisease/covid19/85925
And, we have patients who have died WITH the virus but not BECAUSE of the virus. It is difficult to discern which it is.

And, hospitals get a higher reimbursement for COVID-19 related deaths.

One way to answer the question of under versus over counting is by looking at excess mortality. That is how many more deaths are happened than were happening last year (or averaging over the last several years) at this time. The data shows that deaths are up above what is being attributed as COVID deaths across the board. This is a crude metric because it tells you that more people have died this year but not why. But I think it does answer the question - are we over counting Coronavirus deaths? The answer is no.

Undercounting also happens with flu. There were 18,000 confirmed swine flu death worldwide, but CDC estimates the real number is between 150,000 to 575,000.

For regular flu, there are 3,000 to 15,000 confirmed flu deaths in the US. But CDC multiplies that by six to estimate the number of actual flu deaths. Those higher estimates are the ones usually cited in the news. But if we just go by confirmed cases, Covid has killed 5X more people in six weeks than the worst flu season kills in six months.

Trump has moved the goalposts again, this morning suggesting 100,000 deaths.

There is no way it is less than 200,000 and with states opening up, be prepared for far more.

Horrific.

And note, this is the Financial Times, one of the leading international publications. So when we talk about the reputation of the US abroad, this is what people are seeing.

Strange. I was able to access it directly and do not subscribe. Sorry.

It is damning and gives a comprehensive timeline and highlights critical points where the Administration and Trump and Kushner specifically, dropped the ball, or worse, made callous decisions based on the stock market or other forces.

So when Trump says that Obama left the shelves empty...

“had Congress kept funding at the 2010 level through the end of the Obama administration, the stockpile would have benefited from $321m more than it ended up getting.”

The CDC screwed up the initial testing capability we needed

Contact tracing is a privacy/trust issue we are an individualistic society vs collective (most SE asian countries)

We have public health agencies at the state and federal level. Maybe you've never interacted with them or heard from them but they're there.

they aren't big enough or have experience with real contact tracing
plus the CDC testing failure made it hard to contact trace

The reality is we were forced to go to shutdown because of the testing failure at the outset

Yes, they have experience with real contact tracing. They may be too small but that's not a permanent state.

Americans are too dumb, thoughtless and inconsiderate to do contact tracing. Can you imaging the Bs info the tracer person would get from talking with the average dumb American or illiterate? Nil helpfulness.
