What data are you talking about? You think bad principals do not have their entourage who will protect their boss? In our lower elementary school with less than 500 students we have 6 non classroom teachers who are in the hallways most of the time keeping tabs on others. Obviously these teachers will sing the praises or the principal for having an easy gig. Many others will flock around them so that they won’t be the weakest links and being regarded as someone who is not a team player.
The other day one agressive student smacked his classmate’s face so hard, his fingerprints were on the poor child’s face. Do you think I was allowed to fill out a report? After the “investigation” the kid who was physical told administration that it was an accident. That was it. I was told that I must have been busy and not seen how it had happened. And by the way the kid who was physical happened to be white. The other kid not.

I hope the parents push back. If my child came home with finger marks, damn right I'd be in the school the next day.

My daughter (two-teacher HH, btw) was called a white ho by this kid who was the principal's "pet project." I went directly to a teacher who I knew would handle it. They separated my daughter from him in each class, which was the most I could hope for.

That same kid threatened to shoot up the school in class one day when there was a sub. Guess what? Sub was fired b/c he couldn't "handle" the class. Kid is punishment-free once again.

There is no discipline, and admin are so damn weak and self-preserving. disgusting

I know you’re not in MCPS. Subs are never fired! Including those who fall asleep and let students destroy the classroom.

Believe what you want.

My friend was an administrator at my child's former school. We just fired another sub at my current school b/c he walked out the door in the middle of the school day. It takes one call to HR to put someone on the "do not call/do not rehire" list.

Stop thinking you know it all. You're part of the problem - spreading lies based on lack of knowledge.

Name the school! Lots of interest on this board.

Which school?

And the school is?

Sorry I don't want to name the school. But you can go onto NAIS and search the local job listings. There are openings at a lot of private schools for next year. If you're interested, though, research the schools before you apply -- they all have different "personalities," serve different kinds of students, and some might be a better fit for you than others. I've been really happy and it was the right choice for me.

Thank you for your post OP! Teachers are such an undervalued resource in our community. Thank you for sharing your views. If the current administration won’t listen to these concerns, we need to get new leadership and BOE. Can one of you apply for the COO opening or does it have to come from the Superintendent? Anyone up for running for the BOE?

COO position

No ethical teacher would survive this job b/c you're Smith's puppet.

Why wouldn’t you want to name it. You only have glowing things to say about that specific school. And you claim lots of MCPS teachers are applying so the upcoming openings are hardly a secret. Why keep the info to yourself?

Seems like a good lifeline for someone drowning.

There is no way to do this if the teacher is the sole or main breadwinner of the family. Principals know who to go after. Some might say it’s conspiracy theory but most of the harassed teachers need every penny of their salary.

Well, what will you do instead? Stay?

New poster but you have options even if you're the main breadwinner. I left and went to an independent school and make the same money.

It’s not just the salary. It’s the pension and health insurance. I am a single parent and a teacher and I’d love to get out of public education where I am expected to move mountains but I couldn’t afford it. I’ve applied and interviewed at quite a few independent schools but their package is not enough to get by on.

Keep looking -- it took me some time, but I did eventually find a school that matched my MCPS package.
