It was a negative crash course in how practitioners that might be burned out themselves interact to limit their own stresses by passing them along.

Burnout teachers should quit rather than dragging things down for the students and those of us who aren’t “demoralized”.

I think they may be -- a lot of MCPS teachers are applying to openings at the private school where I work.

And to add on to that, my private school head loves hiring former public school teachers. They're wonderful to work with because they're enormously grateful for the increased creativity and collegiality, and they work hard. They haven't seemed so much burned out, it's more like they've been burned.

If your school is so great, why does it have so many staff positions open in December?

It's for next year. Our enrollment is expanding and we're adding staff. We also have a few teachers who are returning to graduate school. This isn't for now!

Very unusual to interview for positions 8-9 months in advance.

What data are you talking about? You think bad principals do not have their entourage who will protect their boss? In our lower elementary school with less than 500 students we have 6 non classroom teachers who are in the hallways most of the time keeping tabs on others. Obviously these teachers will sing the praises or the principal for having an easy gig. Many others will flock around them so that they won’t be the weakest links and being regarded as someone who is not a team player.
The other day one agressive student smacked his classmate’s face so hard, his fingerprints were on the poor child’s face. Do you think I was allowed to fill out a report? After the “investigation” the kid who was physical told administration that it was an accident. That was it. I was told that I must have been busy and not seen how it had happened. And by the way the kid who was physical happened to be white. The other kid not.

I hope the parents push back. If my child came home with finger marks, damn right I'd be in the school the next day.

My daughter (two-teacher HH, btw) was called a white ho by this kid who was the principal's "pet project." I went directly to a teacher who I knew would handle it. They separated my daughter from him in each class, which was the most I could hope for.

That same kid threatened to shoot up the school in class one day when there was a sub. Guess what? Sub was fired b/c he couldn't "handle" the class. Kid is punishment-free once again.

There is no discipline, and admin are so damn weak and self-preserving. disgusting

I know you’re not in MCPS. Subs are never fired! Including those who fall asleep and let students destroy the classroom.

Subs can be placed on a do not call list. The subs can't be hired in the future.

For that specific school. They just go elsewhere in MCPS. That’s not being fired.

They can be fired. New poster.

Got fired because a student called my principal her daddy and I actually thought it was his daughter. Turns out they were not related. Super awkward.
