Could you wear pants, or were you required to wear only skirts/dresses?
If so, what was it like the first time you wore pants? Describe the experience & feeling. |
| Do you have long hair with big, poufy 1980s bangs? |
| How many siblings do you have? Where do you fall in the birth order? |

Only dresses and skirts.
Out of all the families in our group, my parents had the most critical thinking skills. they were both born into it as well but had questions and doubts. We never knew they questioned it when we were young but as we became teens, it became more apparent. So due to that, I had worn snowpants when I was a child. Everyone had to wear a dress or skirt over their snow pants. We did that when with others in the group but outside in our backyard, we wore snowpants. the first time I ever remember wearing actually pants was in grade 7. I was a tomboy my whole life and so the dress / skirt thing was torture for me. In grade 7, I told them I was going to use my own money to buy pants so my mom made me a pair of pants. They were shapeless and big and I had to wear a long shirt (well past my butt) over them ....but they were still pants! I remember feeling like such a bad ass rebel! |
We all had long hair (for females) and short hair (for guys) but it wasn't waist long. My parents let me cut mine to bra length. I did have pretty bad bangs but I was a teen in the 80s so I fit in more than I otherwise might have! |
We actually had a small family. Only 6 kids. I am 4th. |
| How many siblings did you have? How many are raising their kids in this manner? |
|
How old are you now? Did your parents follow the Bill Gothard sect like the Duggars do? Did you attend an actual church (if so, what denomination? And were there a lot of other big families there or did you guys stick out?), or did your family do a "home church?"
Did you do all the other Duggar-like stuff like no dating, kissing, college discouraged, home school, etc.? |
| Did you grow up in the US? Are you comfortable saying what region or state? |
I lucked out. My parents truly thought my sisters and I would get married about 18-20 and have kids but at the same time, my father was an intellectual who spent most of his free time studying Biblical literature and similar. He always encouraged us to read. I told them I really wanted to go to college and they agreed to let me go to be a nurse. My parents ended up leaving the 'group' when I was right near the end of high school. They tried to have their own group for a few years with other families that had left at the same time (there was a bit of a split in the group) as they still believed most of it and had only left due to a couple specific difference. However once 'out', we (the kids) all went our own ways. My sister and I both went to grad school! Most of my cousins only have high school if that. You could 'date' in groups at church events. The church has no name, it was a gathering of people with similar beliefs. Kissing (not making out) was okay right before marriage after you were engaged. |
No I grew up in Canada. |
All of this, plus how did your family take the whole Gothard's a Rapist thing? |
| What are your current religious beliefs? |
| When did you first have sex? |
