If he is still in an active status with the Guard, and is a colonel, he may be in the position of squadron/group commander - or may have been on assignment in some far-flung location.

It is somewhat understandable he cannot simply walk away from his duties on a moment's notice. Keep in mind his mother was/is reported missing, not dead.

What is very unusual is his stiff body language and the fact that he is wearing a baseball cap during this video. Being military, removing your hat/cover is instinctive when in a situation like this. Surprised he kept his on.

It seems like his body language/abrupt statement indicates he was not comfortable with doing this video - for whatever reason.

What? He may be uncomfortable because his 84-year-old real mother is missing and could be dead or soon to be dead? Of course he’s uncomfortable. He’s probably not used to doing interviews or being on camera and he probably hasn’t slept or showered in many hours and he’s having to sit there and watch his sister read a very difficult statement.

Agree.

A normal person would be very uncomfortable in the circumstance with how much media publicity this has because of the famous sister . No matter how much pain or anguish you’re in and wanting to get your mother back, doesn’t mean you’re going to be comfortable speaking in front of a camera. It doesn’t mean you know something more, it doesn’t mean you think it’s a bad idea, these people are going through an intensely traumatic experience together, and to expect them all to be acting the same, all the siblings, is absurd. May none of you ever have to go through a traumatic experience in the public eye.

And if the brother is particularly shy or uncomfortable with attention, he might especially feel awkward sitting next to his celebrity sister as she speaks so articulately. It is just not his thing to be in the spotlight but as much as SG is obviously destroyed by what is going on (it is gut wrenching to watch her in so much pain) she is extremely accustomed to and comfortable in front of cameras because that is what she does every single day. That the brother appears uncomfortable makes complete sense given the specifics.

I find it strange it took him 4 days to get to AZ

Her brother is a decorated military veteran who spent 16 years flying F-16 fighter jets in the Air National Guard and now flies for the Vermont Air National Guard, which probably took him a day or two to get stuff handled in order to get back to Arizona.

It’s also a PiTA to get from Vermont to Tucson. It’s bad enough getting there from DC but it is reasonable the travel alone might take more than a full day depending on flight availability.

+100

I am a Tucson local, and we often just opt to fly directly out of PHX. Tucson has a limited number of direct flight options. Also, flying out of Tucson is almost always more expensive (sometimes significantly more).

There is a ransom demand but no more specific info on communications or proof of life.
There have also been at least one fake ransom demand - they are bringing charges against any fake demands.

Whoever made that security camera should be out of business. They knew there was a problem within 24 hours and they can’t recover that tape? What a waste of money.

During the press conference, they were very clear that no one is currently ruled out, but that social media is dangerous and can ruin lives with mean things they’re saying. In my opinion that was a direct response to people claiming it’s the brother-in-law.

Along with that, they also said the family has been extremely cooperative and has done everything they have asked and again mentioned the impact on rumor mill/social.

I am totally confused by the camera thing. It says it was disconnected, but then “picked up a person” on camera minutes later (how- if it was disconnected). Yet they can’t get the video because she didn’t have a subscription.

Not familiar with these cameras at all, so I don’t get it

Anonymous wrote:How long can you go without insulin at age 84?

My dad was a type 2 diabetic. You can go awhile (especially if eating not a lot or a diet with low glycemic index) but your blood sugar will be high. You will feel crappy and your organs will suffer damage, perhaps irreversible, the longer you have the high blood sugar. Low blood sugar (like what happens with too much insulin) is a bigger problem in the short term. I think kidney damage is one thing that can happen more quickly, especially if not well hydrated, so kidney failure might be a real risk, as well as things like neuropathy and vision damage, the longer this goes on.

It’s also posssible though that the kidnappers have some insulin….lots of America is diabetic so they may have realized the issue and it’s not hard to get. They could be in Nogales in an hour or so and probably get it there without prescription if they went to the right pharmacy. Obviously none of this is great for a woman of her age but I think if the kidnappers care about keeping her alive and aren’t total idiots, they could probably get her what she needs.

But it doesn’t sound like the family’s received a proof of life which isn’t a good sign from a kidnapper at this point.

I’m also confused but I think it’s that the front door camera was damaged or removed but there were other cameras. They weren’t attached to a cloud service I guess. I would think it still records some place but maybe only keeps a very short period like an hour or two. It’s not like the cameras they had in liquor stores 20 years ago that had a hard tape that kept 24 hours of recording or something like that you see on the old Law and Order episodes.
Maybe she primarily had it so she could see who was at the front door, and not for real security purposes.

I believe they said it was a Nest cam. Shocked that they weren't paying for a subscription, at minimum.

It can be quite difficult, depending on where he is in Vermont (especially if he was somewhere remote with the National Guard and had to get emergency leave). It could take a day or more to get to Boston to fly out of there.

For locals, are there traffic cams at any big intersections near the neighborhood? I would think traffic would be light at that time of morning. Curious if there are any vehicles going in and then leaving that fit this timeframe.
