My dad was a type 2 diabetic.  You can go awhile (especially if eating not a lot or a diet with low glycemic index) but your blood sugar will be high.  You will feel crappy and your organs will suffer damage, perhaps irreversible, the longer you have the high blood sugar.  Low blood sugar (like what happens with too much insulin) is a bigger problem in the short term.  I think kidney damage is one thing that can happen more quickly, especially if not well hydrated, so kidney failure might be a real risk, as well as things like neuropathy and vision damage, the longer this goes on.

It’s also posssible though that the kidnappers have some insulin….lots of America is diabetic so they may have realized the issue and it’s not hard to get.  They could be in Nogales in an hour or so and probably get it there without prescription if they went to the right pharmacy.  Obviously none of this is great for a woman of her age but I think if the kidnappers care about keeping her alive and aren’t total idiots, they could probably get her what she needs.

But it doesn’t sound like the family’s received a proof of life which isn’t a good sign from a kidnapper at this point.  [/quote]
