https://www.statnews.com/2020/02/25/new-data-from-china-buttress-fears-about-high-coronavirus-fatality-rate-who-expert-says/

I did a 30 page paper on the 1918 La Grippe Pandemic back in my undergraduate days. It was almost 20 years ago, but IIRC, the 1918 pandemic started similarly where it spread rapidly, mutated in the spring and summer to become a lot more lethal, and then came back ferociously in the fall and winter. If the mortality rate is 7x or worse for mortality than the flu it is quite worrisome, and we still don't know how it may mutate. This may not be over until 2021 to 2022 even if there is a lull this spring or summer.

We've always been battling these types of pandemics. The 1957 flu from China killed 75,000+ Americans and over one million world wide. The 1968 flu from Hong Kong killed another million +. There's very real possibility of a loss of a significant amount of life. We shall see.

1918 pandemic was so deadly because most ppl died of bacterial pneumonia and there were no antibiotics available then. Also it was WWI which meant many countries’ medical personnel and resources were diverted to the war. Most deaths were kids and elderly but there was actually a high death rate
Among adults 20-40 but many of the deaths were soldiers living in terrible conditions.

That flu was more likely to kill people in their 20s and 30s because what killed them was actually their immune system's massive response to the virus. It destroyed their lungs in the process. The healthier you were, the stronger the response. I learned that from reading this book years ago:

Was this person confirmed before death or after?

We don't know yet.

Washington State so far has reported only two cases, one a woman who had traveled from Daegu and the other the teenager who contracted as a result of community spread. I believe the woman was recuperating at home; not sure about the teenager.

BNO News says that Washington State will report at least two new cases and a death. The death could be among the newly identified cases.

^^Actually, re-reading the media advisory, it looks like the death was from the newly identified cases.

“If you think you have flu-like symptoms,
you call your doctor and get seen.”

Perhaps counties need to be setting up something for people who don’t have a doctor to go see...

Which is scary because neither was old or immune-compromised.

People need to take responsibility for staying healthy.

I’m continually shocked at how many are so sloppy about hand washing.

If the death is from the newly identified cases, we know nothing about their situation because no information has been released about them.

Too many cavalier about the entire thing. I’m not a panicker/prepper and I have a PhD in Immunology/microbiology...and I am concerned.

The kid was at school then had chills, fever, etc. at one point went back to class. They are disinfecting high school this weekend. They have released that they have zero idea how he contracted it because didn’t fit any risk or travel factors.

I think even mild cases last weeks, so likely just the bad flu.

This year there are a lot of bad Flu B cases. Aches, fever, weakness, congestion.

I was sick for a bit over two weeks. My kids had the cough but never got worse where I did the second week. It didn’t come on rapidly like the flu. We also all had some GI trouble right at the start.

I suppose I’ll never know, but still hoping.

Exactly. Shocking how many are still wanting to go on their spring breaks. Why would anyone in their right mind unnecessarily expose themselves and families in airports and airplanes is complete LUNACY.

Why does PP think the death was someone "young and healthy"?
