Wuhan virus (coronavirus) arrives in the USA

I did a 30 page paper on the 1918 La Grippe Pandemic back in my undergraduate days. It was almost 20 years ago, but IIRC, the 1918 pandemic started similarly where it spread rapidly, mutated in the spring and summer to become a lot more lethal, and then came back ferociously in the fall and winter. If the mortality rate is 7x or worse for mortality than the flu it is quite worrisome, and we still don't know how it may mutate. This may not be over until 2021 to 2022 even if there is a lull this spring or summer.

We've always been battling these types of pandemics. The 1957 flu from China killed 75,000+ Americans and over one million world wide. The 1968 flu from Hong Kong killed another million +. There's very real possibility of a loss of a significant amount of life. We shall see.

1918 pandemic was so deadly because most ppl died of bacterial pneumonia and there were no antibiotics available then. Also it was WWI which meant many countries’ medical personnel and resources were diverted to the war. Most deaths were kids and elderly but there was actually a high death rate
Among adults 20-40 but many of the deaths were soldiers living in terrible conditions.

I think even mild cases last weeks, so likely just the bad flu.

This year there are a lot of bad Flu B cases. Aches, fever, weakness, congestion.

I just watched Washington State press briefing from last night.

What it lacked in production values was more than made up by the forthright, yet calming answers from those doing the briefing. I particularly liked the bald man with glasses on his forehead who didn't speak until about 16 and half minutes into the briefing.

Also, it looked like the journalists attending asked on point questions and didn't stray from the topic at hand, nor sound shrill. (Audio for their questions was difficult to follow.)

Kudos to both the Washington State Department of Health and the Washington journalists.

12:06 pm: Trump to hold White House press conference on coronavirus

President Donald Trump announced he will hold a 1:30 pm ET press conference on the latest coronavirus developments at the White House.

Just noted on CNBC. I hope he takes a page from the tone and tenor of the Washington State briefing.

Yes. It's state governments that actually do the nitty gritty work of public health. For those states that actually care about public services to some degree (California and Washington among them) I expect that state public health officials will be some of the most important and trustworthy figures.

Can you name another shelf-stable, easy to store, easy to cook, high carb, inexpensive food that will feed a lot of people and is part of a complete protein when mixed with beans?

Time to take responsibility for your own health, and perhaps rethink your unnecessary travel/ public outings.
And PERSONAL hygiene.
