First day drop off -- MD tags

Anonymous
There's an easy, high-tech way for schools to nab fraudsters at drop off. DC should rotate and deploy some of those vehicles with the license plate scanners, which can run the registered owner and address of every vehicle dropping off at the school over several days. Then compare that list to the names of parents on file at the school. If they get hits for parents with vehicles registered to a MD address, then jump on it like a dog on a bone for further, focused investigation.

Why do that, when there appears to be a devoted and obsessive cadre of moms here willing to stand there and write all the numbers down? It's possible that some of them would rather do other things to help their school, like volunteer in a reading program--or fundraise.... but, I mean, really. Are these the women you want around children? Do you think they are competent enough to network for donors or write grant proposals?

My, but folks are so quick to take offense at anything these days. We know that getting to DCPS after-care before closing and then the drive back home to Maryland are stressful after a long day at work in DC.

Are these not for SES and excepted service positions? The district does not require 8 forms of documents (bank stubs, tax stubs, mortgage payments, credit card payments, etc from competitive service and low-wage workers). I read that list and it is a list made for people with high performing, educated, financially competitive applicants.

I've registered cars in DC and my son just got his license. They ask for all sorts of documentation, yet people provide it. Why should it then be such a burden if various information is required for school registration, particularly if there is any doubt about DC residency?

Please look at this list and tell me how many people outside of the assholes posting on DCUM can come up with all these.

These are the forms required to verify DC residency for employment and PP wants the schools to use this information. I'll be damn if I give up this information to the schools. You do know that they photocopy and retain the information you provide them and I am not comfortable with the schools having all my financials at the tip of a computer key.

Why should I spend my time fundraising for Maryland kids who are scamming a DC public school education? I've been accused of being a bleeding heart, but I have certain boundaries!

DP. It appears that you have a hard time at comprehension and inferences.

And there you go again. I don't care about residence cheating. I care that you're screaming about black people and PG county. That doesn't mean I am against residence cheaters being caught. It means I think you've taken a relatively minor issue, and made it into your own personal race-baiting hate speech.

I find you people exhausting and I bet most of you are new to DC, as in the last ten years. I remember when DC kids used to scam to get into the PG and MoCO schools. Too funny.

BTW, I do know four different DC parents, anecdotal I know, who have placed their kid(s) at the TP Magnet school and the French immersion school in Greenbelt. People this area is transient and it goes back and forth, especially with the high rate of separation and divorce. Just get over yourselves.

This and a whole bag of nuts.

NP - Most of the people I see at my HRC with MD tags, I follow in from MoCo (I live close to the line.) I also see familes dropping off from VA when I get there. We most likely have some PG as well.

Long time lurker on this post, but first time poster. The only people who have been screaming (or even mentioning, for that matter) "Black people and PG county" are the people who claim they don't think residency cheating is a problem. I am a long time DC resident and think residency cheating is a pretty big problem in DC. I never even thought about it being a race-correlated problem, and didn't envision it being a bunch of little black kids. I did understand that, by a matter of geography, there are a lot of cheaters coming in from PG county. But I also don't think of PG county people as undesireables - regardless of race, it's a pretty high income county relative to DC proper. They'd probably be a net positive on average to the school system. But I think of any cheaters as a serious problem on the school system. Nothing to do with race. I'd be surprised if parents of kids in DCPS have a problem with upper middle class black kids from PG county going to their schools. These are parents who have in many cases actively chosen to stay in the city, with all the diversity it brings. I think the people crying racism on here are just trying to stir up the pot.

PS we did not get into our first choice PK3 (not in bounds, but just a few blocks from our house). Pursuant to the published lottery data, there were many IB people who did not get into the PK3 program for this fall. We have met exactly 4 families who did get in to PK3 there -- friends of friends, one kid in my son's private preschool, a couple people at the park. In all four cases, the families do not sleep in bounds. And none of them had sibling preference. They are just fudging the papers. Based on the housing stock in this school boundary, and the number on kids riding on their older sibling preference, I'm not sure if more than a couple kids per grade actually live in bounds. I don't know why people on this site are so adamant that cheating is a small problem.

PP didn't mention PG county or black people. Nice try.

NP. No, but everyone knows that PG county is majority Black followed by brown, with a sprinkle of white and Asian. When people only have a problem with PG County residents entering DC schools, you have to be a tool or a fool not to understand what they are saying. When people start acknowledging that children are coming across the line from VA and MoCo perhaps then others will not think they aren't playing the race card.

BTW, you cannot take one message out of context and say, PP didn't mention . . . without acknowledging all the prior emails from PP and those who have typed similar comments.

I'm not the PP who wondered at the douchebaggery of people overly concerned about this, but will confirm said douchebaggery of people who think it's no big deal to take time off work, because said douchebags obviously don't work. I would say get a fucking life, but it seems this brand of lowlife has a critical dearth of aspiration. To me, that's actually more dire to our nation's future than the 3-5 families at my kids elementary school who may not live in DC. I'd much rather ridicule the ridiculous cheat brigade for as long as you have time and energy to post your ridiculous accusations than spend even a second persuing someone's MD license plate.

Get a real job, douchebags. One that pays you to show up and contribute something meaningful. You'll feel better about your sad life and provide a better example to your kids of what community and true citizenry means. Building the workforce is, after all, the reason for public schooling. I want my tax dollars ensuring that even the progeny of douchebags know how to, and know the value of, work.

No matter what douchebag neighborhood they come from.

I am the PP and I think I love you.

And then of course, we're back to this:

There it is. I've been waiting. If you disagree with me well then you must be a cheat. LOL.

Or, we are just not massive douchebags who keep talking about PG county and Mayor Berry when we mean black people. Black people. At our schools! In Washington, DC! The humanity?

I don't understand your point about taking time off work. Most white collar workers can take time during the middle of the day to do errands. Obviously fast food workers, auto workers, other blue collar cannot. It's weird you assume someone saying it's NBD to take time from work would be unemployed. I would assume they are in corporate law. Where do you work, where it's an impossibility to take a long lunch to go run an errand? Your post is super angry but not carefully considered.

My HUSBAND is in corporate law, in fact. And yes, he has trouble taking off work during school hours. Could he do it? Yes, if necessary, but it would be a massive inconvenience.

And me? I don't work a white collar job. I work a job that requires me to be there, or else it all goes to hell. I know, being in charge of social media for the Heritage Foundation... they probably let you come in, whatevs, because you don't actually do all that much. But some of us do. If I'm not at my shift, someone else has to be. And that's not easy. I find it kind of offensive that you assume I must have a white collar job--as if that is some value of worth.

???

What firm is your husband at that he can't get away during the day? He must be very junior but even then this is almost unheard of. Maybe he tells you he can't get away because he has a lot of work to do, but pretty much all firms are focused on billables these days unless you are junior and your boss is power tripping.
