Oh, I think getting books like Toni Morrison and books about gay families out of schools is exactly what the fascists are going for. Ditto anything that teaches children about boundaries and bad touch. Double ditto books in middle and high school talking about sex in age appropriate ways. Soon schools and libraries in red states will be down to the Bible (so wholesome, that one) and the little red book of red hats: why the gop is always right and you should stop thinking for yourself, children. |
You don’t seem capable of addressing my points. This has nothing to do with Trump. I never supported him and he’s irrelevant to parent objections to sexual images in school libraries. |
DP. You're calling the PP (and others) "beyond stupid" when you aren't even bright enough to follow along with the PP's post? The point is that many parents feel the book, "Gender Queer," is sexually explicit (it is) and does not belong in public school libraries (it doesn't). Of course those empty shelves weren't populated by books like "Gender Queer." Unfortunately, because people like you inexplicably disagree with common sense, there is now legislation that is grossly overreaching so that all books can be reviewed. This would be unnecessary if there was even a shred of common sense from the left, but there clearly is not. Simply removing "Gender Queer" from public school libraries would have been the obvious solution, but no. Apparently removing an obviously pornographic book from school shelves was just a bridge too far for liberals. Not to fear though! You can still purchase this book (or check it out of the public library) and expose your own kids to pornography as much as you'd like. |
You, Sir or Madam, have far too much common sense for the likes of these folks. Bravo. |
Oh honey. You’re beyond help. |
Do you object to any sexual content or only if images, as a graphic novel would depict. So Judy Blume books are ok because they don't have pictures? But if someone made a graphic novel of "Forever" that wouldn't be ok? What about a book shown in a sex ed class? That's not ok? Or even for a library to have a basics sex ed book? |
^^ The response of someone who has nothing intelligent to say. |
DP. I object to porn in public school libraries. Is that not clear enough for you? Sex ed is not porn. Any other strawmen you'd like to discuss? |
I wrote an essay about it this forum a few years back, naming Black authors who deserved far more recognition. She's the M. Night Shyamalan of the literary world; as in she uses the same literary trick in every book. Also she has levels of over the top violence and rape and she hatred towards her own sex, that you would swear your reading George RR Martin. |
This is the official video from Duval Co Schools regarding classroom libraries. Every book in a classroom must be approved by a certified media specialist or the teacher can be charged with a felony.
ANY parent or "community member" can challenge a book and open up the offending teacher to possible criminal charges. I'm sure this is just what the Framers intended when they wrote the 1st Amendment. |
Yikes. Big Brother. Glad I'm not in Florida. |
No, it’s the response of someone who is fed up with fascists - oh, pardon me, “mOdErAtEs” - blithely excusing fascism. It’s not 1932; we have some idea of how bad fascism can be and the ramifications of treating benignly or, worse, applauding it. “Some other books might get caught up, but it’s worth it if Gender Queer is gone.” That’s moronic. First of all, you fascists are all obsessed with this one book. Why just this one book? Because it’s sufficiently far enough outside your milieu for you to be able to be whipped into a panic about it. Not a one of you can point to a single elementary K-5 school or class it’s been in, nor can you point to anyone who has come to harm from reading a cartoon book about figuring out one’s sexuality and consent. And if this book is in the school library in 6-8 or 9-12? GOOD. The “penis” you are all freaking out about is a finger. If you think a finger dangled in front one’s genital region is ban worthy, I’m sure you keep your fundamentalist children at home and with no screens, no phones and no friends who might sully them. You are so obsessed with controlling other people’s lives and other people’s children because you’re terrified of a world of equality in which people know themselves and know how to act towards everyone with decency and honor. You don’t want Black or Native children to know their history and you sure don’t want your White kids to know the truth of what White America did to minorities, so you’re totally fine with those kinds of books getting disappeared. You don’t really like LGBTQIA+ people and the fact that those people can have families now makes you mad as hell, so you don’t care if books about those types of families are erased. If you want to rear your own children to be stupid and hateful, that’s your choice. It’s a dumb choice, but it’s clearly the choice you’ve committed to. And so I reiterate, hopefully with enough words that you can understand more fully what I meant when I said it the first time: “Oh honey. You’re beyond help.” |
Got it. So books like Judy Blume's Forever that provide a story of first time sex for teens, books like Then Again Maybe I Won't or Deenie which describes young masturbation, are ok because they don't have pictures? There's no graphic novel version (yet)? |
The fascists haven’t come for those yet and since the book banning fool you’re talking to doesn’t actually read books, they have no idea what you’re talking about. Once their thought leaders tell them why those books are banned, they’ll tell us why they shouldn’t be in elementary school libraries (and you and I and all the other readers can have a good chortle over the idea of these books being in an elementary school library). |
