I don’t have an objection to Toni Morrison’s books. Good books will get caught up in bad legislation. It would have been better if reasonable compromises could be made. But some people will insist on making images of sex acts available to children in their schools. Parents will object. Poor legislation is the end result.

Oh, I think getting books like Toni Morrison and books about gay families out of schools is exactly what the fascists are going for. Ditto anything that teaches children about boundaries and bad touch. Double ditto books in middle and high school talking about sex in age appropriate ways.

Do you object to any sexual content or only if images, as a graphic novel would depict. So Judy Blume books are ok because they don't have pictures? But if someone made a graphic novel of "Forever" that wouldn't be ok?

What about a book shown in a sex ed class? That's not ok? Or even for a library to have a basics sex ed book?

I wrote an essay about it this forum a few years back, naming Black authors who deserved far more recognition.

This is the official video from Duval Co Schools regarding classroom libraries. Every book in a classroom must be approved by a certified media specialist or the teacher can be charged with a felony.

ANY parent or "community member" can challenge a book and open up the offending teacher to possible criminal charges.

I'm sure this is just what the Framers intended when they wrote the 1st Amendment.

Do you object to any sexual content or only if images, as a graphic novel would depict. So Judy Blume books are ok because they don't have pictures? But if someone made a graphic novel of "Forever" that wouldn't be ok?

What about a book shown in a sex ed class? That's not ok? Or even for a library to have a basics sex ed book?

The fascists haven’t come for those yet and since the book banning fool you’re talking to doesn’t actually read books, they have no idea what you’re talking about. Once their thought leaders tell them why those books are banned, they’ll tell us why they shouldn’t be in elementary school libraries (and you and I and all the other readers can have a good chortle over the idea of these books being in an elementary school library).
