Dear middle-aged women: capri pants do nothing for you.

Me too! But it's only 42 pages? In my memory it was longer than the T**mp Women Fashion Disasters thread.

And for synergy, here's Vanky in capris. Yep, they look effing dumb

You wish. That outfit is quite chic.

I’m not a huge fan of capris or Ivanka’s style, but I agree.

I find this outfit confusing because the jacket/top looks like it's for cold weather but the capris look like they are for warm weather.

All of the individual components are chic, but as usual Ivanka has messed it up because she has no fashion sense. The jacket is too heavy for the pants. The stilletos just don't work with it. I'll give her a pass on the super heavy makeup on the theory that maybe she was doing a TV appearance. The hair would look cute with a different outfit, but not sure why she thought the 40's vintage film start curl would work with the business suit goes to the beach look she's working on here. A chic straight cut would work better with this jacket.

This. I promise you I look (much) worse in shorts than capri pants. But full length pants are HOT in the summer. So I wear capri pants. Sorry. It isn't that I think they look good on me. It is a lesser of the evils sort of thing.

+1. I used to live in the Middle East and wearing flip-flops with pants felt better than wearing shoes with pants, so of course cropped pants feel better than shorts!

Spring has sprung.

I was the original poster of this thread a decade ago. I have aged, matured, grown...

I don't wear capris- yet!- but more importantly, I no longer care what others wear. I renounce my judgment of your favorite knee-covering, shin-exposing pants!

I went to an event today and many men and women in their 40s and 50s were in attendance. Most of the men wore polo shirts tucked in under their pot bellies and shorts.

Nearly all the women wore capri pants. Capri pants do nothing for you. If you are short, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are fat, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are tall, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are thin, you don't look good in capri pants. No matter the body type or age, capri pants are not flattering.

I say this lovingly. Wear anything else- anything! Shorts (long shorts, if you want to; even short shorts look better than capris), a skirt, pants, anything but capri pants. They make everyone look stumpy and shapeless. No one looks good in them.

Why do you care? Women think they are comfortable. Grow up.

LOL. Thank you for starting this thread lo those many years ago, OP! I think of it often when I get my capris out for summer. And in fact this weekend I was wearing capris and caught a glimpse of myself in a mirror in a store and thought "OMG that DCUM capri person was right all along, these look horrible on me, wtf have I been thinking wearing these around?" (I'm not being snarky here, this is actually a true story!) I mean part of it's I'm also a decade older and have to work harder now to look put together and part of it was those particular capris were super schlumpy but...as you have revolved to acceptance, I have gone to the other side of the wheel and accept your original wisdom. *bows in homage*

I was a child when this thread got started and now I am a middle aged woman. Still no capris for me but I have recently decided that actually I love jumpsuits. May the ensuing "dear middle aged women, jumpsuits do nothing for you" thread live forever, and us too.

+1 Capri pants are FAR more flattering than shorts or tennis skirts on women with cellulite or varicose veins.

Imagine a 60 year old woman (who doesn't play tennis) sashaying around in a tennis skirt.

That said, I think you feel better in what you feel good in. I'll pick choosing good about myself over trying to dress for others.

Disagree, tennis skirts look a million times better. Not all of us have varicose veins.

I think capris have come a long way since this thread was started. There are some cute, flattering cuts out there now.

Amazed this is 10 years old! I'm now middle aged and 10 lbs overweight* and I feel like the issue is that many of us middle aged women are just not considered attractive, so nothing we wear will look great. Im at the point where my non-work uniform is a t shirt and bike shorts or cropped leggings because if I can't look grear, I might as well be comfortable.

*yes I KNOW I should lose the weight but a) it's hard! And b) medical stuff has gotten in the way this spring.

Phew! So glad you don’t care anymore about my capris. I can now breathe a little easier!
