So it sounds like Japan and S. Korea are just shutting down. How long I wonder? This is just getting started.

Does anyone else find it strange that there's a Wuhan Institute of Virology close to where all this started?

You can find plenty about this on the internet, mostly conspiracy theories but some theories of accidents. Better not to got there on this forum.

Not at all. What I do find strange is the aggressive ignorance of Americans. Wuhan is an educated city of TWELVE MILLION PEOPLE in a technologically advanced nation. So of course they have all sorts of institutes of science. On top of that, it was well known that the threat of a coronavirus could emerge from wildlife in southern China. So there's nothing at all mysterious or strange about it.

Researchers estimate cases in Iran at 18,300 with a range between 3,770 to 53,470 in a paper published February 25.

Iran currently is reporting 245 cases with 26 deaths, the highest number outside of China.

Their estimate is based on "known exported case counts and air travel links between Iran and other countries."

"We estimated that 18,300 (95% confidence interval: 3770 to 53,470) COVID-19 cases would have had to occur in Iran, assuming an outbreak duration of 1.5 months in the country, in order to observe these three internationally exported cases reported at the time of writing."
