Coronavirus: first case in the Republic of San Marino
This is announced by the Coordination Group for Health Emergencies
Chronicle

San Marino Republic 15:41 - 27 February 2020
The person is admitted to the Infectious Diseases department of the Hospital "Infirm" in Rimini.
The Health Emergency Coordination Group, at the end of today's meeting, confirms the first case of infection with new coronavirus (Covid 19) in a San Marino citizen, which was widely expected to happen because of the characteristics of the virus; This did not surprise the table for the management of this emergency.

This is an 88-year-old person with chronic polypathology, admitted to the Infectious Diseases department of the Hospital "Infirm" in Rimini on February 25, due to a clinical framework already compromised. Confirmation of positivity to the new coronavirus was communicated this morning to the ISS Health Directorate.
The epidemiological survey shows that the patient has not travelled abroad or even in the red areas of northern Italy.

In the territory, the operational protocols already prepared in accordance with the ordinances issued and which take up the indications of international bodies in particular the WHO and which, in a highly precautionary measure, include the highest supervisory measures and public health prophylaxis.

At this time, a health team is rebuilding all the close contacts of the person considered at risk, on which the prepared measures of ordinance No.1 of 22 February 2020 and the operational protocol adopted at the health level are being applied. In accordance with the current provisions, the doctor who assisted the patient who tested positive for COVID-19 was placed in home quarantine with his family members; and at the moment they're all fine. A medical substitute for conduct has already been identified by the Primary Care Directorate.
Citizenship is informed that the patient has never gone to the Health Centre of Borgo Maggiore and that the hospital rooms where he passed for the first inspections, have been sanitized.

Please remind your citizen that in case of respiratory disorders, accompanied or not by fever, you should contact your doctor or the Medical Guard by phone and not to go to the EMERGENCY department or health centers. For information, contact 0549 994001 or the Interforce Operations Centre on 0549 888888 for any reports.

The call for San Marino citizens to spontaneously restrict routine access to the hospital or to the clinics of territorial medicine, which are operational for emergencies and priority activities, is renewed.

Obama, with his trim figure, erudite manner, cool hands off approach, and firm belief in science, would have been better at this than The Donald. Just chill about the corona, he’d say, adding his catchphrase, I got this.

UC Davis student under investigation. They are awaiting test results from CDC. She is in isolation, as are her two roommates. Unlike the suspected case, the two are not showing symptoms.

I can’t find recent numbers for China. It had seemed like their amazing response was paying dividends. WHO had a great twitter q and a. Women are really the obed leading the response. Yay for that! Still can’t get a firm answer on whether it’s airborne spread or not. Spread by cough droplets, but that’s not airborne? Lots of uh, uh, umming from the experts but no great answer.

Not at all. What I do find strange is the aggressive ignorance of Americans. Wuhan is an educated city of TWELVE MILLION PEOPLE in a technologically advanced nation. So of course they have all sorts of institutes of science. On top of that, it was well known that the threat of a coronavirus could emerge from wildlife in southern China. So there's nothing at all mysterious or strange about it.

LOL - educated and technologically advanced didn't stop their bad habits that led to this being transmitted from animal to human. They know how SARS started and DID IT AGAIN.

One day in Northwestern Germany. How things unfolded today (Thursday) in North Rhein Westfalia.

https://www.wa.de/nordrhein-westfalen/corona-virus-nrw-coronavirus-covid19-heinsberg-epidemie-ticker-news-13560300.html

(I went through the information from earliest update to latest and summarized in my own words, but you can read the original at the link if you read German or machine translate)

A 47 year old man from Gangelt, Germany (near the dutch border) felt ill, reported complaints since Feb 16
Hospitalized in nearby Erkelenge near Aachen
Intubated, on vent

Transferred to Dusseldorf Hospital where he tested positive (yesterday I think)
Critical condition

Wife is 46, symptomatic. Has tested positive.

Wife is a K teacher in Gangelt. Schools closed there.

Soldier who had social contact with 47 year old man during Carnival party in Gangelt, symptoms, then tested positive.

10 nurses, 4 doctors at the hospital in Erkelenz have been sent home to self monitor.

children of K teacher have been sent home to monitor.

The two patients (47 man critical, 46 woman OK) had been very active in the past two weeks; vacationed in the Netherlands in a hotel. Those people being monitored.

47 year old man reported fever and cough since Feb 16. Came to the hospital on Monday of this week. At that time lung function was bad, rapid deterioration and failure. He tested neg for flu so coronavirus was suspected. Wife initially tested negative.

The Bundeswehr soldier is 41, has flu like symptoms, not serious.

An employee of the critical 47 year old man has tested positive, as well as her partner.

The District of Heinsberg is trying to contact all visitors to the carnival event in Gangelt Community. They think about 300 visitors were at the event in one room.

There is a doctor in Monchengladbach who is positive. He attended the Carnival event. He had contact with 12 patients at his workplace and several employees.

Courts in Erklenz, Geilenkirches and Heinsberg are closed.

1000 people in the Heinsberg district are now under quarantine. Relatives/Friends are bringing food to them. This is about 400 people who had been to the Karnival festival plus their close contacts.

The carnival association sent list of its members to public health.

Public transport still open. Churches not making changes.

Churches to make some changes (no holy water)

14 more people who were in Gangelt for the festival have tested positive. No info on them yet.

Everyone who is not seriously ill is being treated at home.

1 of the 14 is a resident of Dusseldorf so virus is now in a major city (this person was sent home to self monitor)

They continue to seek contacts of all those at the Karnival event

What are the symptoms? Just fever, cough, shortness of breath? Not sneezing/congestion?

... meanwhile we here in the US let the pharmaceutical industry spark the opioid epidemic which will likely kill many more than coronavirus ...

Fever in almost all cases. Dry cough in most cases. Runny noses in only 4% of cases.
