Yes. Over and over again. Quit excusing 15 year olds who say it. THEY KNOW. And if they do say it, this is rather a mild consequence for that choice. |
You can give yourself a cookie but your frame of reference today or earlier isn’t necessarily the same as that of every white teenager in 2015 or 2016. The music I listened to as a teen was far less profane and graphic than what kids have been exposed to in more recent years. If you want white teenagers not using the same language as their black peers, start teaching them earlier and/or clean up the culture. You can’t expose kids to edgy words constantly in a desensitized context and then expect them not to use them. That is not how adolescent brains work. A cynic, of course, might say some people are happy with the “gotcha” cancel culture because it provides endless opportunities to bring up grievances and lobby for change. |
Really, what consequences would you impose and would you impose them on all teens, or only some? |
Quit playing dumb. Seriously. I’ve seen kids get knocked OUT by their peer for thinking this is cute to say at school. The consequences depend on who hears you say it. You don’t get to control that. So some kids get punched . Some kids have their Snapchat posted and shared. Some kids never face any consequences at all. They’re all rolling the dice when they try it. So instead of fighting for Mimi’s honor, go talk to your kids RIGHT NOW in no uncertain terms and make sure they know under no circumstances should it come out of their mouth if they aren’t Black and if it does, they’re going to see what happens. Maybe nothing. Or maybe something 3 years later when they try on a new activist persona and a classmate says “not so fast.” |
LOL this is hilarious. As if kids today are more sheltered or don’t know what a racist term that is. Good luck- I hope your kids know all the excuses in the world don’t fly when it comes to this. |
I wouldn’t say more sheltered at all. More desensitized, definitely. But I’m sure your kids are perfect and will never mess up in any way, so no need to worry. And if they do, just avoid this forum for a few months, because the fire will still be burning when you return. |
All kids mess up. They all face consequences . That happened to Mimi too. It happens to all of us. |
When my kids mess up they will deal with the consequences and half the county isn’t going to have a fit, because my kids are brown kids who don’t have that sense of entitlement and privilege. |
? There have been big pushes in recent years to dilute the consequences of what kids do by pressure not to suspend/use resource officers/discipline for many infractions in the schools. If anything there is mostly a trend towards NOT imposing consequences - except for the sledgehammer used here to swat a fly. |
Every inch of this. We teach out kids EARLY, that life isn't fair. You teach your kids how to whine about how life isn't fair. |
One drop rule? That is an antiquated and ignorant view. A lot of bi-racial people consider themselves bi-racial because they are just as much white as they are black. If you are so dense that you view someone bi-racial as being black, then that is just your own ignorant view. |
LOL please enlighten us more on the “modern” black person pp! You just seem soooo credible! |

Looks like the black panther activist is still butt hurt over this little incident. She is out for BLOOD ![]() |
?? The only activists on this thread are butt-hurt white people. |
