So reading this new article in the dailymail has convinced me that maybe the grandpa really didn’t know it was open and really was/is that dumb. That being said, if he’s that dumb, a sign saying “Caution, these windows might be open” would not have helped. I still think the family is in the wrong.

Omg, according to photo #4, it actually shows the grandfather holding Chloe above his shoulders and up by his head (think playing Superman with your baby up over your head).

I'd never seen or heard anyone discussing this angle before, but I got the chills when I saw where she was positioned in the photo (which would have made it super easy for her to slip from his grasp and fall).

The red arrow points to her.

Actually, I was wrong.

I just looked again and although it's grainy, it does NOT appear as if he's playing Superman with her, it appears that Chloe is standing on her grandfather's SHOULDERS in front of the open window!

It's picture #4.
Am I just seeing things or is this what's happening in the pictures?

The staff initially said he was "playing games."

He must be quite a severe alcoholic to look that worn at only 51.

Yes.

After coaching from LEO father of the baby and former prosecutor mom of the baby. Very odd.

He is NOT the grandfather, he either recently married the grandmother, making him a step or is said to have been merely dating the grandmother. He did not raise the mother of the baby and there is no evidence he had any caretaking experience with toddlers.

There is a rumor that there was life insurance on Chloe, anyone know more?

I am not sure this a determination of his BAC would make any difference. He was only acting as custodian. There's no criminal charge AFAIK for drinking in front of children or being drunk around children. It might have a bearing on a civil case. However, anyone even vaguely familiar with the legal system would advise you not to take any tests not required by law.

I don't think it's that strange to have a small life insurance policy on kids. Through work , I have a 10K one on DS that costs me $2 a month.

The glass window go down all the way to the bottom, she could pretty much banging on the glass while standing on the ground. He definitely knew the window was opened, that’s why he picked her up not for her to bang on the glass but for her to see the view and feel the cool air.

Exactly. This was discussed early in this thread. Such a BS story and awful to even place any light on the hockey-playing big brother. Oh this is what she does at her brother’s games. Here’s a cute picture... of her standing on the floor, hands on the hockey glass. So if she was doing the same thing, she’d be standing on the ship’s floor banging on the glass. No excuse to hoist her above your head and dangle her out a window. FFS.

For sure a small policy makes sense. If it was a larger policy it would be unusual.

A small policy to cover funeral expenses, sure. But more than that would be very odd.

I imagine there would be other expenses beyond basic funeral expenses when there is the sudden death of a child.
-Excessive time off work (depending on the work, you might not get paid)
-counseling (with our "Cadillac insurance" policy, there would still be large co-pays--and that's IF you can find a counselor that accepts our insurance on short notice. Otherwise you need to go private and pay out of pocket.
-travel expenses for out of state family
-"outsourcing" chores you normally do yourself but find you just can't do while you are still grieving (cleaning, food shopping, etc.)

I could easily see these things adding up to thousands of dollars in a short amount of time.

I think that particular frame is when he was liftibg her onto the railing. Typically you lift something Above where you want to set it down.

I think he just lost his grip on her loose wet swimsuit when leaning her forward.

Stop assuming the child was wet. The lawyer will start calling for slip resistant railings.

She was wearing "slip resistent shoes!"

Well, you are right that I don't KNOW she was wet.... but she was in a loose swimsuit right next to the splash pad. (see pic in the pink suit).

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7805799/Video-shows-grandfather-dropping-toddler-death-cruise-ship-window.html

Whether it was the angle in which he was holding her, or the loose-ness of her swimsuit or her wiggly-ness, or whatever.... we all agree that the man put her up on the railing and lost his hold on her while leaning her forward (as he admits).

Growing up my parents had funeral policies on us kids (maybe $10k each) because the policies are dirt cheap and my parents didn’t have funeral money for sure.

Yes this has definitely not been reported anywhere and in fact I’m pretty sure I read that the family asserts he had not had any drinks that day. That doesn’t make him less negligent, but I wish this person would stop pushing the drunk narrative.

Court records show that Sam has multiple tickets for speeding and failure to wear a seat belt. It is not clear that any of the charges involved DUI.

What do you mean it’s not clear?
