The lawsuit against Royal Caribbean/toddler death

He placed the toddler in a dangerous situation with an utterly tragic result.

That's right, the rail acts almost as a window gaurd/gate.

Of course, and this is why they will lose in court. The standard is “what would a reasonable person have done?” A reasonable person wouldn’t have lifted a child up and over that railing to “bang on the glass.” Not even getting into the “how did he not know it was open?”

Or, if you are an idiot, a shelf for children.

It is not credible that a LEO and former prosecutor would be unfamiliar with the ubiquity of cameras in public spaces.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7935033/Parents-toddler-dropped-death-Royal-Caribbean-ship-beg-Puerto-Rico-end-case.html

What are we to infer from them not being on notice about the cameras - that they would not have gone forward with their plan had they known?

NEITHER parent should work in any LE or criminal justice capacity again.

Why the intense zeal to prevent the murderer of your baby from taking a breathalyzer?

There should be forensic accounting done on the family. We are missing pieces.

So reading this new article in the dailymail has convinced me that maybe the grandpa really didn’t know it was open and really was/is that dumb. That being said, if he’s that dumb, a sign saying “Caution, these windows might be open” would not have helped. I still think the family is in the wrong.

That article just convinces me grandpa’s first reaction was to lie to take blame off himself. It is a natural reaction. People do it all the time. Your gut reaction to something horrible happening is to deny it was your fault. I do not blame him for his initial reaction. But I do blame him for continuing with the lie. It is time to step up, admit you made a bad decision and ask for forgiveness.

Why does this article call him “elderly”? He’s 51, FFS.

Because they clearly got their information from the family's lawyer and are using his words. The lawyer and the family think people will be more sympathetic towards Anello if they view him as a feeble and old grandfather, and not just a regular middle aged dude. If he had been a 51 year old uncle, they wouldn't have a story. "Grandpa" gives them that angle.

Agree. I guess we should all be grateful that no one is calling this BAR a “children’s play area” any longer.

Step - grandpa or boyfriend of grandma, he had no experience with small children.

Can't inferences be drawn from the refusal of a breathalyzer?

Omg, according to photo #4, it actually shows the grandfather holding Chloe above his shoulders and up by his head (think playing Superman with your baby up over your head).

I'd never seen or heard anyone discussing this angle before, but I got the chills when I saw where she was positioned in the photo (which would have made it super easy for her to slip from his grasp and fall).

The red arrow points to her.

Actually, I was wrong.

I just looked again and although it's grainy, it does NOT appear as if he's playing Superman with her, it appears that Chloe is standing on her grandfather's SHOULDERS in front of the open window!

It's picture #4.
Am I just seeing things or is this what's happening in the pictures?

Why did that lawyer do that stupid stunt? All he showed is how HIGH that safety railing is, and how STUPID someone would need to be to go over it.

hence proving how stupid the grandfather was...

The family kept saying the grandpa picked her up for her to bang on the glass window. My question for them is why did he need to do that? The glass window go down all the way to the bottom, she could pretty much banging on the glass while standing on the ground. He definitely knew the window was opened, that’s why he picked her up not for her to bang on the glass but for her to see the view and feel the cool air.

I think that particular frame is when he was liftibg her onto the railing. Typically you lift something Above where you want to set it down.

I think he just lost his grip on her loose wet swimsuit when leaning her forward.

Stop assuming the child was wet. The lawyer will start calling for slip resistant railings.

Yes.

After coaching from LEO father of the baby and former prosecutor mom of the baby. Very odd.

He is NOT the grandfather, he either recently married the grandmother, making him a step or is said to have been merely dating the grandmother. He did not raise the mother of the baby and there is no evidence he had any caretaking experience with toddlers.

There is a rumor that there was life insurance on Chloe, anyone know more?
