OMG, I forgot to put sunscreen on Larla before she left for school! Do you think she'll be OK?

Exactly. I told my family last night that MCPS was going to underreact for this snow, given they overreacted on Tuesday. That's decision-making at its worse, because instead of deciding based on actual ground conditions, it's based on fear of community backlash... which they got anyway. They're so stupid.

Some of you are so embarrassing. Your kid fell? You slid a little? Just a bunch of snowflakes. Stay home if you are afraid.

It's clouding up again, so she'll only get a first-degree burn. You'll do better next time.

This would be true if temps were going above freezing. They arent. Roads will still be icy and sidewalks will still be impassable

Sometimes I wonder how humanity made it this far. FFS, people, it's not that hard. Hell, the ground is still above freezing, so they snow is just melting as soon as it hits the pavement and sidewalks.

So stupid. The ground isnt above freezing. The roads are. The sidewalks vary based on location and nearby terrain. Parking lots also vary.

Oh things are melting at your house while its 25 degrees out?.

The ground is warmer than 32F. And even on a cloudy day, the sun will warm surfaces.

So yes, snow and ice will melt before the air is 32F.

Rough week for Taylor!

This was a tough day to call. The drive to school was a bit dicey but I went slow and was grateful for my all wheel drive and anti-lock brakes.

If I were making the call, I probably would have erred on the side of a 2-hour delay, but I'm not mad that they didn't.

If we were snowflakes, we’d be in our element today, but we’re only human.

We did. Sometimes it's better to use common sense and stay home.

Looks like Taylor's call resulted in dozens of MCPS bus accidents today. Yikes.

Icy and snowy road conditions Friday morning resulted in dozens of collisions before 9 a.m. involving cars, public buses and school buses across Montgomery County, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) spokesperson Pete Piringer.

Piringer told Bethesda Today that MCFRS crews and county police were “very busy” responding to collisions across the county during the early morning hours. But by about 9 a.m., collision reports appeared to slow down.

Piringer said he had seen a “variety of road conditions” while driving around the county Friday morning, ranging from low visibility due to heavy snowfall and slick conditions caused by snow sticking to roadways because of low temperatures.

“Temperatures were cold and any precipitation that fell, stuck,” Piringer said. “The road conditions were bad. It was pretty intense there for a while.”

No serious injuries were reported, Piringer said. He noted that many of those incidents involved school buses stuck at the bottom of a hill or that had slid on a road.

Since we do not get the same weather it doesnt make sense for us to budget for the same level of preparation. Instead we close or do late arrival or early release. But on this day we had more important things going on than your children's safety.

We have adequate resources to get students to school safely and open on time on days like today.

That doesn’t say dozens of accidents involving MCPS busses.
