Yet another GOP shutdown?

It's just as the Democrats warned during the campaign - they're going to cut Social Security/Medicare/Medicaid to pay for the tax cuts for corporations and rich people. How else do you cut 2.5 TRILLION from mandatory spending?

Traitors to their country, each and every one.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahah!

No.

You see, there are 219 Republicans and only 211 Democrats in the current House. If the Republicans really wanted to pass something, they can, with NO Democratic support. So, why is it that the Republicans can't even get members of their own party on board with a bill that they did not negotiate with the Democrats? And why should the Democrats support a bill in which that they have zero input?

I don't get why this is so hard for people to understand??? Do you truly not understand basic math and how the Dems are not needed to pass this CR? It's mind blowing to me. I always thought DCUMers were some of the brightest. Hmmmm

And yet the GOP seems unable or unwilling to do it themselves. They really are the ridiculous gift that keeps on giving.

So, no agreement today. Okay.

Next week is a holiday week, as is the week after that. Then, on January 3rd, we get the new guys, while the government is shut down. Then there's the certification on the 6th and the inauguration on the 20th.

Do these guys have a calendar? Do they care about any of this?

This is a recipe for not raising the debt ceiling because there is zero chance the Rs will agree on how to cut $2.5T. They talk a big game in the abstract, but very few of them will actually vote to cut programs like Social Security and Medicare.

These are the same people that voted for Trump and Biden. Bright? I think not.

Not the 80 year old people. I somehow found enough common sense to realize an 80 year old POTUS would be a very bad idea. How about you?

How about he and Jeffries make a deal - put the original CR up for a vote, and Jeffries will guarantee enough of his caucus to back Johnson as Speaker next term.

It’s simpler than that. Republicans have a majority in the House; they don’t even have to reach out. Then could get a bill House Republicans agreed on and then blamed the Senate and POTUS. But no, they are too chaotic for that’s

Wrong. It's well known that there was a deal in place and that Musk killed it. Keep dreaming, it ain't happening.

Well, Dems have the WH and the Senate so they are in control and they have the power until January 20 so Dems own this one thanks to Biden.

I realize you’re trolling but at least try to be accurate. The new Congress convenes January 3. Johnson will have even fewer Republican votes to lose.

PP isn’t trolling but pointing out who is in office TODAY when this is all happening. Hint: it’s not the new congress and Trump.

Yes. It’s Johnson who is speaker of the House, which is where appropriations bills originate. Seems he didn’t get around to it.

A bill was just put forward that Dems shot down. Guess they want a shutdown.

But again, this is Biden’s term and a shutdown is occurring on his watch. He should get busy.

The Democrats were not included in drafting the new bill. Why do you expect a bipartisan or nonpartisan vote for a partisan bill? They have a negotiated bipartisan bill and refuse to put it to a vote. The do-nothing Republican majority is so dysfunctional that they only allow the House to vote on bills that they know will fail.

100%. This is owned by the GOP.

How will the optics appear if we have an extended shutdown under Biden that abruptly ends after an elaborate Trump inauguration? This is what the democrats are doing to themselves.

You are delusional. Democrats have always been labeled by the GOP as the party of big government. The Dems want, like, and respect the government. Everybody knows this and that’s why they would never shut it down. It will be known as the first Musk shutdown.

Polling consistently shows that blame for shutdowns accrue to the party in power. Highly partisan people like yourself will blame the party they oppose each time. But the American public consistently blames the party in power.

Despite all the wild debates, the GOP gains the most by keeping the government open so that they can hit the ground running and not be slowed down by shutdown cleanup. For the Democrats, it's probably a wash. They will be blamed for the closure but will gain from slowing down the Trump agenda.

The GOP has the majority and can’t get the votes. Only an idiot would think Dems are responsible.

To be fair, there are lot idiots in the republic.

Never - Jeffries loved the circus that was the 2023 Speaker election and wants to see that happen again in 2025.

Elections have consequences. The next time your party suggests that nominating an elderly person is a great idea, think back to this Trump/Biden mess and say "no thank you".
