Go read up on crime. You'll quickly learn two things that support her view: 1) in urban settings, minorities are most often the victims of crime 2) criminals generally target people of their own race. Go do research. Don't ask people to substantiate common knowledge. |
So, other than berating "white liberals" on an anonymous forum, what are you doing to address the problems in your community? |
For the PP upthread, as a white woman I really appreciate your thoughtful post and also for your speaking up for women. I know you are more likely to be assaulted than I am, but I have been harassed on the street by homeless men of various races, and I do feel at risk in a way that I think men do not. (The homeless guy who poured a gallon of urine on someone last fall? You can het it wasn’t another guy!). But it’s complicated for white woman to speak up about crime. When they took SROs out of our schools, there was a discussion at the PTA meeting and even though I supported the program, I did not feel comfortable saying that—in part because as a suite person I don’t really know what the impact of the program is on black students. So while I don’t want to put more work on our Black sisters, I really appreciate it when they provide their thoughts and perspective on these criminal Justice issues. In fact, I think it’s their viewpoints I am most interested in, as they live at the intersection of two different forms of disadvantage, so they are uniquely situation to see the nuance in some of these problems. |
They already told you. They are applauding street justice since the government is failing to provide protection or justice. You can decide that you don't like the answer, but it is the answer. |
DP. If they aren’t locked up and stay on the streets, they don’t magically reform either. There needs to be an option to stay locked up forever, live more or less comfortably (like have a bed and food), take meds, be somewhat productive and clean, but never get out because once they get out they go off the meds and the cycle starts again |
Well, if a Republican harasses you on the subway, you have my blessing |
You shouldn't be afraid to voice your view because you are a white woman. Do you think you'd enjoy the rights you enjoy today if your female ancestors were afraid to demand equality bc feminism at that time wasn't inclusive of minority women? You are entitled to fight for your rights and doing so will often help others as well. How would you feel if a school massacre happened in your kids' school and you didn't advocate for those SROs? Black kids are just as vulnerable. |
The people pushing these crazy, damaging policies the hardest are white women. So, instead of making excuses to sit silent, you should talk to your fellow white women. You should talk to white men too. |
It seems like a LOT of money is being spent without people getting the help they need, this man was saying he was hungry and wanted to go back to jail to have basic needs met.
Public safety is also deteriorating, especially on public transit in major cities, esp NY but including DC. Some are getting rich but the status quo does not seem to be working for anyone else. It is cruel to have the mentally ill living like animals on the street. Basic safety and order used to be understood as part of the social contract with the government. In the 90s things swung far in the direction of 3 strikes, etc. Why can't a middle ground be found? |
This. Maybe they get too emotional to find rational solutions. |
Successful business people have to know how to solve problems. Our Democrat politicians have mastered the art of just talking about the problems. What incentive do they have to solve one single problem? |
Nope. It’s selfishness posing as politics. They advocate policies that hurt other people, not them. |
Canada is extending MAID to people with chronically, incurable mental illness. I can’t say I disagree with that. |
Whoa—not too far then to the eugenics practiced in Nordic countries in the 30s to 50s. |
