Home renovation choices you now regret…

Obviously we won’t be paying to replace something brand new, so I’ll just have to deal with it. Hoping to commiserate with other homeowners who are dealing with this too! What home improvement choice do you regret?

Modern toilets. I wish I had just gone with regular toilets.

Totoly agree.

I don’t get pot fillers. I always let the water run for a min before filling any pot. I think it’s gross to use the sitting water in the pipe to fill the pot.

I hope you don't live on the West Coast.

The water sitting in the pipes is more likely to have lead in it. I’d prefer that my children not invest more lead than is necessary.

Are there lead services pipes to your residence? Or lead solder on the plumbing? Have you had your water tested for lead?

Amen to that.

I’ll eventually swap them out, but we’re just so glad to be done with construction that I can’t bear the thought of having one more thing done right now.

I love my Toto toilets and Toto bidets.

I regret the light grout I used with my kitchen floor tile - so hard to keep clean!

PP I love the Moroccan tiles! So pretty and I don’t really see them everywhere. I’d like them in my kitchen redo but I feel like with all the clutter than ends up in my kitchen it will be too busy.

We have a dark grey slate tile in the kitchen and used a medium grey grout. After a few years, it looked filthy no matter much we scrubbed it. So we got a grout stain and stained it to match the tiles. Love it!

What do you mean by modern toilets? Why don’t you like them?

I have to press harder than I would like to flush and I'm more used to the handle. I do NOT miss cleaning around the bottom of traditiinal toilets though. Modern is neater. My dream toilet is super modern though, the Japanese seat heated, self cleaning bidet setting included automatic toilet.

This is exactly why I want a modern toilet.

I love moroccan tiles- do you mean the arabesque shapes? I'm still warming up to DO that eventually. Is it already passé?

No not the arabesque, the patterned Moroccan tile. Mine are neutral colors and I’m still over it. I don’t think the trend has ended and the tiles are beautiful. I just hate when everything is overdone.

I don’t get this. Either you like it or you don’t. Disliking something because it’s popular is just as bad as liking something because it’s popular.

I’m not sure what you aren’t getting. You can like something and still wish you hadn’t done it. It’s not about being popular it’s bout seeing it every where and being sick of it. Hopefully that clears it up for you.

It does clear it up. It’s about being a snob.

Not a snob at all. Far from it. I am just heavily into interior design. You know the person who has tons of interior design books and watches HGTV all the time After a style has been overdone, and the market becomes saturated with it. I’m over it. I get sick of seeing it. Not really a big deal. It’s my thing. Sorry you aren’t able to understand or comprehend that. But really the name calling is unnecessary.

Pp here with the modern toilet. The toilet doesn’t necessarily go with the rest of my transitional house. There are modern toilets that look a bit more classic. This is the one I purchased. Get ready, lol. It’s a bit much.

How is this any different than a homeowner saying I want to tear out my white kitchen and add some color (I am sick of seeing white kitchens everywhere, I need a change) This happens all the time and is not a big deal.

The cushions are too full, the seat depth is too narrow for our long-legged family, the arm rests are too low, and the worst part is that you really can’t get in a comfy position to take a nap, even though the room is perfect for napping. Drives me insane, but I can’t justify buying a new one yet. My plan is to put it in the basement when the kids are a little older and get a new one.

Makes me mad every time I sit on it.

I am shopping for a sectional now, what did you buy?
