We have just finished remodeling our kitchen and the backsplash is arabesque shape tiles. They have been around for thousands of years. I love them. |
I wish we had installed heated floors on the first floor when we replaced the carpet with tile. |
| Previous owners blew out the attic to make a master suite. It’s beautiful but I hate that it’s an extra floor up, I am almost never in there except to sleep and it’s a pain to heat and keep cool in the summer. I so wish they had added on top of the first floor addition instead. I also think it’s a harder sell to families with young kids, which we didn’t have when we bought but could make resell challenging. |
Wish we had done our attic bath when we did the kitchen & all the other bathrooms, but we figured we'd do it later. Here we are 15 years later and it's still not done It works but we really needed to redo the tub/ shower when all 3 kids were living at home.

| Wish we refinished the hardwood floors before we moved in. Literally impossible to do it now. |
We pick a tile color in a sand color that i thought was neutral. Turns out It clashes with every color and tone. |
|
I regret choosing a real hardwood instead of composite decking for our front porch. The maintenance is too much for us to keep up with and DH hates to hire people for that type of work, so it looks grayed and weathered.
I wish that we had installed a sprinkler system in our small yard during an addition/remodel (when most of the yard was torn up due to extending the foundation). Our yard is small, but shaped in a way that sprinklers have to be repeatedly moved to get everything. |
No not the arabesque, the patterned Moroccan tile. Mine are neutral colors and I’m still over it. I don’t think the trend has ended and the tiles are beautiful. I just hate when everything is overdone. |
I wouldn’t worry about resale. We had a house like this, and it sold before we put it on the market to a family with small kids. If it’s an otherwise nice house in a good location, it will sell. |
I don’t get this. Either you like it or you don’t. Disliking something because it’s popular is just as bad as liking something because it’s popular. |
I’m not sure what you aren’t getting. You can like something and still wish you hadn’t done it. It’s not about being popular it’s bout seeing it every where and being sick of it. Hopefully that clears it up for you. |
Modern toilets. I wish I had just gone with regular toilets. |
I regret my light placement as well. I built new and was overwhelmed with making all the choices and really didn’t plan accordingly. |
It does clear it up. It’s about being a snob. |
| We reused the existing perfectly fine toilets. We put a Toto in the new bathroom and I wish we had replaced the others at the same time. I’ll eventually swap them out, but we’re just so glad to be done with construction that I can’t bear the thought of having one more thing done right now. |
