I think it's ultimately a status thing, not a looks thing. Women of a certain socioeconomic status all get this work done. It looks strange to the proletariat, but it's normal in their social circles. Like expensive handbags or shoes, it's a way of signaling cachet. |
Jennifer had a nose job. So did David and Lisa. |
Like the Capitol in Hunger Games! |
+1 Yup: "Im puffy!!" "Me too!"" "Let's be friends forever!!" Ew. |
+1 I'm rooting for him. All that money, so young - not usually a good thing..... |
Agreed, I noticed his teeth looked super fake. |
| Wow, I had really low expectations but I absolutely loved it. I was in high school at the height of Friends and it’s so nostalgic to me. I agree that it aged terribly poorly and I don’t let my kids watch it but I am surprised by how emotional and nostalgic I got. I love how much the cast clearly loves each other. |
Why don’t you let your kids watch it? (There could be lots of valid reasons, like age. Just curious.) |
|
The teens I know watch it. My 15 year old and her best friend love it. Mine even picked a shirt for Election Day that was Friends inspired.
Save some of the unfortunate gay jokes (product of the times), I don’t think it’s all that bad. Am I missing something? |
Like PP said I think the gay jokes are pretty cringy, the fat jokes, a lot of bad messages. I’m not super uptight, I don’t think, and I let my kids watch other sitcoms I loved growing up like the Golden Girls, the Office, etc. But there are jokes along the lines of “no homo” in a really high number of episodes. It’s unfortunate and sort of ruins the show for me. |
His teeth changed in season 6/7 or 8 and his lisp got more pronounced. You can see in early episodes his teeth were not perfectly lined up. In later episodes they were. Either fake or caps. |
Well, there's the lack of diversity, for one thing. Apparently Schwimmer had to beg for girlfriends of color, and even then, Julie and Charlie were shallow characters with no substance to them whatsoever. There's a reason Aisha Taylor, Lauren Tom, and hell, even Christina Applegate and Paul Rudd didn't guest star. |
|
The gay jokes are so interesting to me now knowing now that one of the creators was gay - one of the creators talked about his husband being on Mad About You.
|
I wondered why none of the minority actors returned for this. Aisha Taylor and Lauren Tom were great, among the more dimensional guest star characters. I didn’t think they were shallow, but rather more logical choices for Ross. Rachel made no sense on paper, was a “heart wants what the heart wants” thing. |
| I cringed. |
