Meghan Markle and Prince Harry News and Updates Part 2

I was really struck by Harry's tacit admission that the BRF has to coddle the tabloids in order to maintain its legitimacy and viability. It's pretty obvious, of course, but that's a heck of a vulnerability to acknowledge. He wasn't as relaxed as Meghan in the interview, I bet that's partly why. He wants to defend their choices, but he doesn't want to bring down his family in the process.

I disagree. He'll see first and foremost what his father did to protect his mother and their children.

Harry and Meghan were both pretty circumspect about the worst things. If they'd really wanted to dish on the BRF, so they could have said so much more.

Oh geez, this isn’t some act of valor. Meghan and Harry, but particularly Meghan, were tired of being second fiddle to Kate and William. They didn’t want to live the often monotonous and restrictive life of the real “working royals”. Meghan wants stardom and glamor and to be THE star. That wasn’t going to happen in the UK. They’re behaving like spoiled brats.

And Meghan’s grievances about title, aside from being unfounded and her assertions untrue (there was NO deviation of protocol), reveals what she really wants: status.

Oprah’s look of dubiousness said it all. Also wonder if Meghan was a high maintenance interviewee.

This was absolutely an act of valor. It was very clear in that interview that Harry is the one who made this decision explicitly to protect his wife and child. That is bravery, especially when your family is as powerful as his is.

Yes I thought his repeated sympathy expressed for his family members still trapped in the system lent a lot of credence to the entire thing. When he talked about how Charles and William could never leave, could never do what he did, I was reminded of the first season of the crown and how absolutely devastated Elizabeth's family was (portrayed to be) when the king abdicated because it essentially meant a lifetime without choice for her.

You thought she should know that they would confiscate her passport and drivers license and not let her go to lunch without permission?

I thought she should know that yes you curtsy to the queen and that you give up a lot of personal freedoms, absolutely.

Her claim that she thought it was just going to be like normal in meeting a boyfriend’s grandmother is laughable, also that she never googled anything about the royal family prior to/while dating Harry. It diminishes some of her credibility for the more serious allegations.

I'm curious to see how they react/defend themselves. Really curious to see if staff loyal to one or the other will leak to the press in defense of their person. IOW, will we see some kind of jockeying between the two houses to not get pegged with the single most damaging revelation of the interview. (Meghan said revealing the identity would be very damaging, so I think that pretty much limits the possibilities to Charles or William, as no one would be surprised if Phillip said it.)

It may have been both. In the interview with Oprah this morning I don't think she implied it was just 1 person. William says moronic things all the time that get overlooked because the focus is on bashing Harry. Charles is seems dimwitted enough if he were not royal he would not make it in the world and hold down a decent job.

I think she came across badly when she said she had done no research on TRF, British history of TRF, or the British press. It came across as being disinterested about the whole thing and then complaining when it doesn't turn out to be just like "being a celebrity" in the U.S. Like, why wouldn't she watch the Princess Diana interviews, at least?

Meghan was known and it was documented she was obsessed with Di in her teens. That was all BS.

And, COME ON, who the hell thinks they will marry into the Royal family and be able to talk freely and hold interviews whenever they want and make $ of brands??

Also, prior to the engagement and at the time of the engagement she definitely was instructed of the privacy issues and what she was not allowed to do. A mere 18 months later she's fleeing.

She came off as a dumb American. A stupid tourist.

Yes, she accepted the title without knowing or accepting what the job would entail? I feel for her on many levels but find it unbelievable that she could have done NO research before going into this, as she claimed.

This is why Harry's previous girlfriends - British society types - wouldn't marry him. They knew enough to avoid being trapped in the royal fish bowl. Was Harry not completely honest with Meghan before they got married?

And poor Harry - he has so many unresolved issues, and his whole life he's tried to run away. Going to Afghanistan - twice. Marrying Meghan, a biracial American. Now moving to the US. I worry about him.

Oh shit. The leader of the British opposition party just spoke up in favor of Meghan.

Harry seems so much more mad at his dad. Less angry with William. I’m getting this feel based on the clip when Oprah asks him about each.
Grandma = good
Charles = “{huge pause} there’s a lot to work through there. I feel really let down...there’s a lot of hurt that’s happened. ...But they only Know what they know. I’ve tried to educate them.”
Wills = “I love William to bits.... we were on different paths.”

Harry thought it was funny to wear a Nazi uniform and was naked in a Vegas hotel room with strippers.

They were having a conversation about how to deal with the possibility of the baby being “too dark.” Anyone who tries to paint this as normal speculation about if baby will resemble mom or dad? have brown eyes or green? — is the definition of gaslighting. It’s also the definition of racism.

Why would you be concerned about something you have no power to change?

And remember, we only have one side's version of this conversation, and that side benefits from being a victim.

He would be so politically famous for being the opp leader under which they fell (and Boris J would be infamous)

She actually said she thought it would be like meeting famous people. And that kind of makes sense honestly as an American. I feel like I would feel the same about meeting QE2 and Brad Pitt. And since she lives in LA and sees famous people a lot, she didn't understand how different it would be. And she said she was really mistaken and surprised by how mistaken.

I actually thought the curtsy thing was weird. She was being introduced as a potential member of the family not as a subject or anything formal.

Welp. We'll see. Tony Blair (who was the same party as this opp leader) helped the crown after they were drowning with Diana. He also used it to strip them of their royal yacht. Johnson has already taken the private planes (announced last week week) - if they survive I'm thinking one of those palaces is going to make a fine new British White House. St. James would be grand.

I caught that too. It seemed like a meeting setting. Something about (Paraphrase) “they told us the arrangements of title and security.. then there were conversations about skin color.”
She dropped any noun...And switched to passive tense.

I suspect Charles and/or Camilla or a combination of Charles and his team.
