You mean the rape?

Got tiring toggling between present, past when they were kids, past when they started working, then glimpses of future.

That said the guy who plays her emotional crush is incredibly off-putting to me also.

I have to agree. I think she's talented but exudes no sexual energy. I have a hard time believing that her hot husband would be attracted to her, especially in the flashback scenes with the 80s hair and glasses. And the crush, yeah, no way she would pick him over the husband.

I feel the same.

I find Sarah Chalke incredibly annoying, with her constant loping/running through every scene. Very manic.

Tully’s mom (the strung out hippie) is a terrible actress.

I still can’t figure out why Kate and her husband are separated??

And finally, Kate’s house is absolutely gorgeous!

Kate exchanged flirty texts with the PTA dad. Emotional affair.

I think this was after her husband decided he didn't want to be a boring suburban dad anymore, wanted an exciting life reporting in war zones like he'd always envisioned.

This seems right to me. It did get a little confusing with all the jumping around.

I just finished it. I thought I’d try to read the book but got bored and started the show instead. I was shocked it ended so suddenly! I appreciate those that read the book confirming some of book details. As I was watching the show, I couldn’t imagine how so many things happened in one book!

What did Tully do?!?

The woman who plays Cloud is one of the WORST actresses I’ve ever seen. Cringeworthy.

The Cloud character is supposed to be that way, Tully is always embarrassed by her. At least that’s how she comes across to me.

I thought she was fine. Loved her in Girlfriends Guide to Divorce.

I agree. That deer in headlights look she constantly had was so unattractive. And yeah, the emotional crush character was not a good casting choice. I've liked him in other stuff but not this.

Awful. The way she delivered every one of her lines was horrible.

Not sure what everyone is talking about with Katherine Heigl and the fillers. I think she looks really beautiful. I like her character a lot more than Kate's, and I love the scenes where the girls are in high school.

K Heighl reminds me of Charlize Theron. They are both naturally beautiful and have a sort of brash/IDGAF confidence. I find it very appealing!

I am unsure of whether Heigl has had fillers. She is kind of chubby and her face reflects that. I actually found it really refreshing that she is so confident and assertive and sexy with her middle aged kinda thick-through-the-middle body.

I agree that Sarah Chalke was not sexy. I think it’s ok though because some women just aren’t all that sexy. She has an elegance about her, but not in this role. She pulled off someone more sexy and desirable in Friends From College. She was not sexy in Tully’s lingerie.

I can see the emotional affair — this is a middle aged woman with a marriage on the rocks picking a guy (PTA dad) who is similarly wounded (widower) and nearby and available. She wasn’t out looking for it to have happened.

I cannot understand why Kate’s house is so jaw droppingly amazing. She clearly doesn’t come from money and then spent most of her life not working for pay and there was no indication that Johnny comes from money.

I found the cliffhanger at the end to be a shitty thing to do to the audience especially when there is no information about if or when there will be a season 2.

I'm going to try to stretch out the last few.

Anyone else watching? I really like it but it looks like it has terrible reviews.

Is this based on the book?

Yes

How similar is it to the book?

I am listening to the book now after hearing people say the show was good and I needed something new to listen to so I figured I'd do that and then watch it, but I actually HATE the relationship between Tully and Kate. It doesn't seem like real friendship. Kate doesn't want to tell Tully the truth about things because it will upset her. Tully never listens to what Kate wants to do, she just barrels ahead. It's actually manipulative and awful!
