Am I the only one that hates white kitchens?

I think this might be something. I am 40 and grew up with all that too. I am not into wood unless its furniture. I also think all that shiplap shit on HGTV is bizarre, its horizontal wood paneling vs vertical?? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills that no one seems to call it what it is!

I agree they are so boring and it seems everyone wants a white kitchen with grey accents, but why?
I like a simple traditional look and if our new house had a white kitchen I guess I would live with it, but no, definitely do not care for them.

White is most forgiving color and the most classic color in history of kitchenology, just as the stainless appliances
that love or hate but they match every decor unlike any other color and so they are to stay.

It is not very forgiving with grape juice.

Really depends on the cabinet. I'm the poster with high-gloss white slab doors, and everything wipes off it like it’s Teflon. I love it.

Can you link to your cabinets? They sound perfect.

Is someone putting a gun to your head and forcing you to live in a house with a white kitchen? No. So get over it.

Sigh...poor people who could not afford quality furniture would paint their cheap basic stuff to liven it up. It was not wrong, but it did not signal quality.

I think the reason wealthy people do white kitchens now is that the faux craftsman look has come into fashion. Like they are trying to hide their wealth in a 6000 sq ft McCraftsman. The white cabinets look salt of the earth. Fine if that is what you want to pretend, but fine wood cabinets don’t need paint and will always signal quality.

What do you call these new construction houses I see around North Arlington and McLean built to look like barns eg white painted wood, with garage doors like barn doors.

You should check out the "Just Kitchens" eye candy thread in the Home forum. Lots of pretty kitchens and tons that aren't white!

She had another thread that was general inspiration and there were lots of kitchens.

I have a black kitchen and love it, but it's a light-filled space so it works. I like no upper cabinets, framed art, and black kitchen.

Remember white cabinets have been around for at least ten years. My sister re-did her cabinets back then, and they are really starting to look their age. There are stains around the door handles, and the paint just kind of looks scuffed. It was enough for me to decide no white when we re-do ours next year.

The cherry cabinets that were in our house when we bought it 10-years ago are really showing their age. 10-years is usually time for a re-fab. This kitchen was brand new when we removed in so I didn't touch it---but looking forward to eventually making it more my style. I will not do white though because we have an entire wall of floor to ceiling windows on back wall of kitchen with a ton of light...and a LOT of cabinet/counter...white would be too bright.

I like white in the right kitchen--if it's high end and the countertops are marble. But sometimes the cabinets are too shiny or bright. I like a creamier white kitchen.

We are currently building and decided to go with mushroom cabinets, herringbone light wood look tile and soapstone look quartz counters. The island is a moss color. I don’t know how popular this is but I think it’s coming along nicely.

See, and I think "another lemming," whenever I see someone brag that they look for reasons to judge another person's furniture.

I loved my off-white Italian kitchen in my house in Europe, it was gorgeous.
But, I hate how people here paint over their existing cabinets white and turn their wood kitchens into white ones. It looks so cheap. Just pay a bit more and get new doors people, just get new doors! Otherwise, there I agree with other people that there is nothing wrong with white kitchens.

Plus a white countertop is so much easier to clean because you actually see the dirt on it. I hate these muddled brown granite countertops that hide dirt.

Nowadays, many families are trying to make the kitchen as cozy as possible, where they want to eat and rest.

That is beautiful. I would change the lights, but other than that, it is very warm and welcoming.

My kitchen looks somewhat like that. Would be more trendy in white but it’s a very relaxing space. It doesn’t have that chilly OR feeling. Like a hospital.

There's still time to rethink the "wood look" tile.
