Am I the only one that hates white kitchens?

Everything white is out of style these days

We had white kitchen cabinets in our previous place. They looked good when they were new but I feel like they were always getting dirty without constant deep cleaning (maybe our family is just gross? not ruling it out between kids and dirty dogs).

My parents have an all white kitchen including a marble countertop and cabinets with complex cabinet fronts...i hate cooking in that kitchen, mostly because I'm afraid of staining the marble, but again, it seems like a lot of work to keep shiny clean.

Currently planning on replacing an outdated honey-oak kitchen with something a bit more colorful...navy blue is trendy but i'm even tempted by some more modern looking wood cabinets...

I think white can look nice or cheap or super duper bland, but I laugh every time someone on these boards says WHITE CABINETS HAVE BEEN AROUND FOREVER as an argument against . . . wood cabinets.

Okay PP's, what do you think is the ideal cabinet color? Since white is out, as you say. I challenge you to state what you think will be "in" for the next 10 years!

Ah. And here was me thinking it was all these posters shrieking white cabineta were so dated or only for poor people that was causing these arguments.

Anyway, however you want to spin it, white as a kitchen color is the one consistency in the history of modern kitchens (last 100 years).

Whoosh, point flew right over someone’s head.

Good Lord. I’m a person who has posted here about liking white cabinets, and I certainly don’t have any arguments against wood cabinets. Why the hell would I? Have whatever cabinets you like! You do you!

So put me down as for white cabinets for myself, and for wood cabinets for anyone who prefers wood cabinets. It’s really not a competition.

You sound like the least likely person to be invited over for drinks.

Is someone putting a gun to your head and forcing you to live in a house with a white kitchen? No. So get over it.

Sigh...poor people who could not afford quality furniture would paint their cheap basic stuff to liven it up. It was not wrong, but it did not signal quality.

I think the reason wealthy people do white kitchens now is that the faux craftsman look has come into fashion. Like they are trying to hide their wealth in a 6000 sq ft McCraftsman. The white cabinets look salt of the earth. Fine if that is what you want to pretend, but fine wood cabinets don’t need paint and will always signal quality.

Wealthy people have always had white kitchens. I know. Trust me, I know.

Other colors, sure. Wood, sure. But white kitchens have been very common among wealthy families since, oh, forever.

To have white kitchens and bathrooms was a hallmark of sanitary and cleanliness, which is part of the reason they are so enduring.

LOL. You are funny!

That is beautiful. I would change the lights, but other than that, it is very warm and welcoming.

I have a white kitchen and own nothing from West Elm. No barn doors or any sort of other "farmhouse" decor either! PP needs to get out of their bubble once in a while.

I like the cabinets and the floors and even the lights, but that backsplash is horrific.

I like both white and wood kitchens - as long as the cabinet style is traditional and not modern.
