Am I the only one that hates white kitchens?

My problem is when it’s white cabinets with a white counter. It’s so monotone. I like a nice grey counter on white. Or a contrasting island. Or something to break up the white

White is most forgiving color and the most classic color in history of kitchenology, just as the stainless appliances
that love or hate but they match every decor unlike any other color and so they are to stay.

It is not very forgiving with grape juice.

Really depends on the cabinet. I'm the poster with high-gloss white slab doors, and everything wipes off it like it’s Teflon. I love it.

Who the hell lets their kids drink grape juice? Are you also having Kool Aid stains on your living room carpet?

Remember white cabinets have been around for at least ten years. My sister re-did her cabinets back then, and they are really starting to look their age. There are stains around the door handles, and the paint just kind of looks scuffed. It was enough for me to decide no white when we re-do ours next year.

Yes, I don’t think I would do white paint. Mine are white factory finish high-gloss. We’ve had them for 10 years and they still look new. I don’t think any paint will last that long.

Is someone putting a gun to your head and forcing you to live in a house with a white kitchen? No. So get over it.

Sigh...poor people who could not afford quality furniture would paint their cheap basic stuff to liven it up. It was not wrong, but it did not signal quality.

I think the reason wealthy people do white kitchens now is that the faux craftsman look has come into fashion. Like they are trying to hide their wealth in a 6000 sq ft McCraftsman. The white cabinets look salt of the earth. Fine if that is what you want to pretend, but fine wood cabinets don’t need paint and will always signal quality.

Wait, only poor people ever painted wood furniture? I seem to recall seeing intricately painted wood furniture in some European palaces I visited.

Also hate all white.

The kitchen is one room you spend the most time in. A little pizzazz is better. Love color cabinets, darker woods, backsplashes with a nice pattern. Sometimes patterned floors can be pulled off very well.

Haha. Are you equating intricately painted furniture to white cabinets. Oh honey.

You only think they look clean.

And to the lady with high gloss vinyl cabinets, you do not belong in a conversation about wood cabinets. Go find your tribe in “home furnishings that don’t biodegrade.”

I wanted white in the kitchen but DH is adamantly opposed. We are doing medium wood with a white-ish countertop. We are literally the only ones in our new construction neighborhood that didn’t do white or almost black cabinets.

We did white for our basement bar and it is great in a less frequently used space. There isn’t as much concern for stains from food. It also brightens up the basement.

I also did white built in cabinets and shelves in my office.

I love them but I don't have one so that may be why

our house came with wood cabinets and black granite - I would not have chosen it, but it is warm and inviting and I do prefer it over the all white look. Similar look to this, except slate floors:

White is out. Get off the train.

I view people with white kitchens that are newly done as people who have a need to fit in. They are so safe and over done at this point.
