Am I the only one that hates white kitchens?

But, I hate how people here paint over their existing cabinets white and turn their wood kitchens into white ones. It looks so cheap. Just pay a bit more and get new doors people, just get new doors! Otherwise, there I agree with other people that there is nothing wrong with white kitchens.

Plus a white countertop is so much easier to clean because you actually see the dirt on it. I hate these muddled brown granite countertops that hide dirt.

I know. I hate when people have to make compromises because they aren't swimming in cash.

Nope, not a fan and they are sadly EVERYWHERE. There is nothing appealing about all white, it is stark.
The kitchen is the heart of the house and all white is cold and uninviting in my opinion.

I did a white kitchen back in 2002 when everything was light maple in trends. I liked it because I had a south facing kitchen with lots of light and the kitchen was bright and sunny. However, I would never do it again because even though I had good quality cabinets, within 3 years the white finished had started to noticeably chip from the drawers and cabinets I used most. AND this was when I was single---so it was just one single person using it. When I married and we renovated our new house, I put in a medium finish wood cabinets and they have held up to a LOT of family wear and tear for over 12 years.

When I bought my house, all I cared about was its location, whether it had multiple bathrooms, and had an overall good vibe. The way DCUM goes on and on about the way the tile looks, etc, is hilarious. Save up some money and rip it out if it's not to your liking!

Warm is trending back. Cool, white, and gray are gone.

I am going through this soul searching. So many of the contemporary kitchens look ok and even good for web site pictures etc. They also look sterile, industrial, or like a gigh priced work place cafe area.

The thermafoil looks industrial.

I offended one designer/contacting firm after they included in an estimate, costs to rip out a nice granite counter top and back splash, repaint of a very nice cherry cabinet in a bathroom where i wanted to replace the shower tub.

Too mant of these kitchens look like something you'd see in nicer fast food restraints, or even well done Wendy’s.

For the cost’s the popular designers and contractors charge for this stuff, I would keep my old 90’s honey oak frame/door particle board box cabinets.

The flippers are doing this white stuff and it does not look inviting, just uilitarian.

I’ve put wood colored cabinets in all my homes and think they look great. It doesn’t matter what color you put in, in 5-10 years people say it looks “dated”. With white you update counters and backsplash and people say it looks great. As a result we chose white for our new build.

funny - my husband has decided he is tired of the black IKEA kitchen we put in 9-ish years ago after we moved into this house and wants to change out to white or maybe gray.

On the plus side, IKEA colors can actually be changed out fairly easily

This explains the ugly white trend, in a nutshell, OP.

No originality.

That is beautiful. I would change the lights, but other than that, it is very warm and welcoming.

My kitchen looks somewhat like that. Would be more trendy in white but it’s a very relaxing space. It doesn’t have that chilly OR feeling. Like a hospital.

This beautiful! Warm and inviting, not stark and drab.

Is someone putting a gun to your head and forcing you to live in a house with a white kitchen? No. So get over it.

Sigh...poor people who could not afford quality furniture would paint their cheap basic stuff to liven it up. It was not wrong, but it did not signal quality.

I think the reason wealthy people do white kitchens now is that the faux craftsman look has come into fashion. Like they are trying to hide their wealth in a 6000 sq ft McCraftsman. The white cabinets look salt of the earth. Fine if that is what you want to pretend, but fine wood cabinets don’t need paint and will always signal quality.

Wealthy people have always had white kitchens. I know. Trust me, I know.

Other colors, sure. Wood, sure. But white kitchens have been very common among wealthy families since, oh, forever.

To have white kitchens and bathrooms was a hallmark of sanitary and cleanliness, which is part of the reason they are so enduring.

HAHAHAHAHAHA. Wrong. Maybe in this area.
