If you could revoke the drivers licenses of bad drivers... what would be the offenses?

OK, but ditto for those convicted of risky behavior. Sure, you were just looking at your phone for a sec. Now look at what can happen when you're looking at your phone for just a sec.

ive got one. if you are turning right or left onto a 4 lane road.

you turn into the lane of travel nearest to you.

So if you are turning right you turn into the right most lane.

if you are turning left, you turn into the left most lane.

you don't need to be mario andretti and nail the apex of the turn and drift out into the far lane.

YES - and if you are the black/yellow car turning left you don't need to wait for the red/blue car to finish turning. You each should turn into your own lane.

This drives me nuts.

People who have poor spatial awareness. Many are distracted or just don’t care. But many people just have horrible spatial awareness (staying center in their lane, parking, turning, etc. They should not be allowed to drive.

It’s not like the grocery store. There’s no “line.” If there are two lanes and one is backed up for miles, I’m going to cruise up closer to the exit and take a gap. I’m breaking no laws and endangering no one. It’s easy to find a gap these days since many of you are looking at your phones anyway. Now THAT’S the real danger.

Uh, that "backed up for miles" is called a line. I agree that people shouldn't be looking at their phones, but two wrongs don't make a right - you are an entitled, selfish jerk. And probably a Maryland driver.

No, that’s not a “line.” There’s no such traffic control or motor vehicle definition. And I’m breaking no law.

It's sad when there has to be a law to be able to have an effective zipper merge that doesn't back up traffic or create greater risk of collision. Do you only follow the law in the rest of your life or do you also implement best practices that may be more than the minimum legal standard in order to reduce risk and increase efficiency?

I cannot stand people who drive down the breakdown lanes to fly past a traffic jam. It is so unsafe (this is how motorists on the side of the road get killed), and no one is so special that they get to endanger others to cut the line.

It is so satisfying to get up the road a bit and see one of those jackasses being ticketed AND losing all that extra time they bought themselves by pulling that maneuver.

In theory, I agree but I am holding back in my black/yellow car until I see where that red/blue car is going.

Are you from the US?

Well the red and blue cars DO have the right of way. Drivers are so unpredictable, I’m waiting until they are clear. And I never trust a turn signal.

Yup, I think that some of the people posting are are the drivers who honk at me to turn right on red when there's a no right on red sign, or flash their brights at me when I am driving in the rightmost lane on the Beltway, or pass me over a double yellow line on a hill when I am driving at the speed limit. GTFOOMW is not a driving law.

Sorry - should say when they are in the right-turn-only lane and clearly turning (signal, slowing, turning). There is an intersection like this near our home and it drives me nuts.

Yes. The shoulder, the emergency lane, the breakdown lane... I was not aware that using a common identifier for the lane would be confusing to the educated, high HHI populace of DCUM. If it is confusing to you, a simple google search will turn up multiple results to explain it.

I am from the US, are you?

There’s a right turn lane on my daily route which drivers routinely use to pass vehicles in the through lane. I’m not assuming anything.

I always learned that when you are turning left, you do not have the right of way. Is this not true anymore?

You may not be breaking a law. But I’m not breaking a law when I don’t let you merge either. I’m not letting you in. Some sucker will, but it won’t be me.

That’s the point. Nobody has to let me in. The natural flow of traffic will easily accommodate more vehicles slipping into the gaps than that single column of vehicles backing up in the right lane. Anyway, when you aggressively speed up to try to block me, all you’re doing is creating a nice gap behind you for me to slide into, so thank you very much!

I think that you are just proving PP's point that you are an entitled, selfish jerk.
