That’s the point. Nobody has to let me in. The natural flow of traffic will easily accommodate more vehicles slipping into the gaps than that single column of vehicles backing up in the right lane. Anyway, when you aggressively speed up to try to block me, all you’re doing is creating a nice gap behind you for me to slide into, so thank you very much!

but I think the OP is talking about people who l ride down the thru lane. while other cars have properly merged.. and then force their way in so they can pick up half a dozen extra car lengths

when traffic is flowing. the merger should get up to speed with traffic and blend in. but people around have this aversion to pushing the go pedal to get up to speed to safely merge.

But I think what pp means is two lanes splitting - one is going straight, and the other is veering right, towards some sort of exit or different road. And instead of lining up in that right lane, they cruise in the left lane - going in a different direction - cut ahead of people and then merge into the right veering/turning lane at the last minute. These people are jerks and know they're being jerks, but their sense of entitlement are what drives them.

Oh OK - that isn't exactly "merging". Maybe call it exiting...

I’m not an aggressive driver at all. I will happily allow cars to merge when entering the interstate. Or when there is an unexpected lane closure. But if you race past a line of cars and try to merge at the last moment, I’m not letting you in. It has nothing to do with me. I simply refuse to enable narcissist behavior.

Then you aren’t a safe driver if you are “letting people in” on the interstate. This is a really unsafe practice. You have the right of way. Take it.
