Retailers you would never use!!

Third (or fourth) the "avoid Tree Top" posters. We've switched to Doodlehoppers 4 Kids in Falls Church.

Wachovia - crappy customer service, unnecessary holds on checks deposited, hidden fees. Finally left.

I don't buy electronics from Target because if they don't work you have to return them to the manufacturer rather than being able to return them to the store. Also, Target has a policy that you have to return things within 90 days, which as an earlier poster pointed out, can be difficult if you don't get shopping often.

I'm also curious about the reason that some one is boycotting Hudson Trail Outfitters.

Crate and Barrel. We ordered a dining room set from there years ago. The stain from the set came off onto our clothes! We returned the set and never went back there again. I throw out their catalogues.

Why?

Because they rip off their fans. Parking price and distance from stadium. Poorly run organization. I think if the redskins organization got hit in the pocket, things would improve.

I agree, not to mention, their very name is offensive.

Tree Top Toys - hate that they took over nice independent stores in the North Bethesda area, closed one down, and the other has a selection that cannot compare to Child's Play or Toy Kingdom.
Trader Joes - I just don't see the mystique, fruit and vegetable selection minimal, milk and cheese close to out of date.
Anthropologie for clothes - I like to look, but the few things I have bought have fallen apart or shrunk quickly after purchase.
Wal-Mart - labor policies and big box store that pushes out the small businesses whenever it comes to the area.
Toys R Us - TERRIBLE customer service and return policy, lousy selection for anything but plastic stuff.

Tree Top is NOT a small local business- they are a small chain based out of Chicago with three locations in the VA/MD area. Go to Toy Kingdom or Child's Play if you want a small local toy store.

Please make a new year's resolution to keep your snark to yourself.

Too hard to keep...I'd break that resolution every time I talk or read posts from crazy people like you! Too many crazies and people wound a little too tight to ignore. Your original post is still making me laugh ....and feel sorry for your kid all at the same time.

I should have specified; I am an NP, not the person you were making fun of and not crazy.

Now you look like the crazy one. Are you related to vendetta mom?

Not sure how my comments make me look crazy, but obviously my comments were directed at the first poster on this topic. Not sure who vendetta mom is because I haven't been on DCUM lately.

Target. Their return policies are too strict for a parent of young children (who have enough to worry about).

Huh? We do returns all the time there.

Ditto. We returned tons of baby stuff and no problems.

A friend and I were commenting on how the quality at Ann taylor and gap has gone downhill. I hate that Gap always gives me store credit for returns and I cannot spend it since it's all pretty lousy quality for me (and over priced for the kids).

Babies R Us, hands down!

Don't expect to find deals there. We try to use their coupons, and found out at the check out that it did not apply to most of items we wanted. So, we ended up paying full price. Another time, we returned an item that was purchased on-line and they would not credit our Visa and gave us a store credit, even though they carry the item in the store. Very proprietary tactics and not customer focused by any means.

Agree with everyone else about Sears they are horrible. I would not buy a large appliance there if it was 20% less than everywhere else (which it never would be because they always cost more than Home Depot, Best Buy, or Lowes). I hate the sales people who hang out in the appliance area, pester you, and then give you wrong information. Anyone I know who has ever bought something from them has regretted it. The bathrooms are disgusting too.

We bought Kenmore kitchen appliances from Sears and after 2 years, they all have issues:
Oven door does not close all the way,
build-up on the Cooktop Stovetop is hard to clean,
Dishwasher rack coating is starting to peel and rust,
Refrigerator floor fills up with water condensation from the freezer and
Sewing machine is hard to thread and jams up.

We bought Kenmore Brand because our parents did. But, the quality is gone. It's just another junk made in China with the brand name slapped on.

We have bought all of our appliances from Sears, and, although we've had a couple little issues (i.e. door closure issue with dryer, getting something stuck in the dishwasher), the appliances were under warranty and were fixed with relatively little hassle. I love our Kenmore Induction Range and our higher-end Kenmore dishwasher. Our lower-end dryer works just fine. The other appliances we got from them are not Kenmore - they are Whirlpool Gold (fridge) and Whirlpool Duet (Washer). My husband swears by one guy that is the only guy he'll talk to at Montgomery Mall's Sears. We've given him 1000's of dollars of business over the years (redid two kitchens in the last five years). That said, we do our own research on appliances - I don't trust any salesperson regarding the quality etc. of their merchandise. They are ALL trying to sell something. I'd rather go to Consumer Reports or consumer ratings online to decide for myself what I want.
