Retailers you would never use!!

So basically, we boycott the top discount chains, the top electronics dealer, the top cable/phone companies in our area, the top eyeglass retailer in our area.... and Tree Top Toys (maybe). So why are they the top in their category?

I think there is a lot of complaining and not so much actual boycotting going on with this thread.

I hate Verizon more than I can say. To pp's point, I think some chains grow through acquisition and sheer market power rather than by quality and price and customer service. Avoiding having anything to do with Bestbuy and Verizon isn't always easy!

I'd rather that my children have one or two nice playthings, than a pile of ugly plastic junk.

Really? They sell Playmobil and that sort of thing, too. Are you thinking of a specific location (do they have more than one?) I go to the one in McLean a lot, and I'm just curious. I don't really recall seeing a lot of Made in China stuff, which I usually refuse to buy. But I have been frustrated several times by the store being half empty.

Where is Playmobil made?

I second/third/fourth/whatever boycotting Verizon. Hate hate hate them.

I will also not set foot in Walmart.

I had a bad experience with Enterprise Rental Cars a few years back and now make it a point to find another rental company when we need a car.

Comcast - when we moved told us they would transfer old account - I paid bill on line and did not notice account number change (my mistake yes) but now 6 months later have not refunded to us our over payment and even refused to talk to us about other billing questions until we paid the other bill in full. So now they owe us a bunch of money and every time we call, they say they will send us the refund but nothing happens....... pure fraud if you ask me.

Germany, according to the box DS opened yesterday. But then again, we also purchased it in Germany. Where is the stuff made that sells in the US? Anybody know if it's different?

Walmart, Verizon, and United Airlines. I will pay up to double to fly anything but United. I hate them so, so much. I've had many bad experiences with them but the final one was when I flew out to the midwest for my niece's baptism. It was a direct flight, but somehow United lost my bag. I arrived on Friday night. Saturday, still no bag. I had to go buy clothes for the service on Sunday. On Sunday, 4 hours before I was to return home, I called United to check on my bag. Their answer? "It is in Chicago. Would you like us to send it to you?"

I was in Minneapolis.

Wal-mart is gross and I hate it.

Enterprise rental car.

My cable and cable internet was down once with Comcast, and it took me hours and hours over the phone to get the problem fixed. It became obvious that the problem needed a higher level technician after the first visit but they weren't convinced of that until about the 6th visit. Absolutely horrible-time consuming, i worked from home then so I needed the internet service. Each time you call, you have to go through the same chronology; etc..

Bloomingdales. My DH who is from South America was seriously discriminated against there. I used to think he was exaggerating when he talked about this happening, until I was there and saw it happen myself. So, so sad.

Ann Taylor.

I thought I was being so clever, doing all my shopping online this year, saving myself hours of mall-trolling. What arrived for my sisters was junk. I was embarassed by the quality of the jewelry. Looked nice online; trashy and cheap when the boxes were opened.

And one of them was falling apart.

Ixnay on the Ann Taylor for evermore.

They were *SO* rude to me when I complained about the quality of a dining room table and chairs I bought from them (the wood is too soft and it dents where the chairs meet the table, and screws keep falling out from under the chairs). They suggested it was my fault for being too rough with the furniture (um, using it? for a couple of weeks?) and that I should just screw the screws in tighter myself and the problem would go away (they still fall out regularly, over a year later) They also went out of their way to avoid telling me it would go on sale shortly (like DAYS) after I'd bought it.

I still scowl at their store every time I drive past it. I will NEVER buy a thing from them again, and I am pleased to spread the word.

I am with you! Crappy furniture, rather buy the same quality at Marlo's!

Giant - a few years ago they accused me of not charging myself for an item when I went through the self check out line. I showed them on the screen that I had charged myself. The clerk refused to apologize to me. I went to the manager - he also refused to apologize to me - he said that they had so much shoplifting, they were justified in what they did to me. All I wanted was for them to say "I'm sorry" and they wouldn't do that. I complained at their online site - the company did apologize on line. For a couple of years, I didn't go to Giant at all. I occasionally go now, but never at the location where this happened.

(I can spell it out: I preferred the chocolate be in an aisle I can avoid when shopping with a toddler.)

Hilarious. Seriously?? Almost every aisle in the grocery store has something my toddler would like to have. Deal with it!
