Also, Chutpah is not a great Jewish Deli. Mediocre at best. I thought Celebrity Deli I Falls Church was pretty good, but not sure if it still exists.

So then you're saying that the stats in the study that OP posted are wrong?

DP here, but did you read the whole study? The Suburban Maryland counties included were limited to Montgomery and Prince George's County. The NoVA counties in the study includes Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince Williams, so it's not surprising the the total population of Jews from all of NoVA is higher. I am curious that if Howard County was included, what the stats would show. Moreover, if you compare county to county, Montgomery would still have a higher Jewish population than the individual NoVA counties.

Montgomery County covers as much ground as Fairfax County, Arlington, and the City of Alexandria combined. You would be loading the dice to compare MoCo to just one NoVa jurisdiction.

No, that's incorrect.
Fairfax County itself is bigger than MoCo and has a bigger population.
A simple Google search could have told you so.
I know this is DCUM, but do you people just make things up to make you feel better?

NP. Fairfax has more people; Montgomery is a larger county (491 vs 391 square miles). Maybe you’re the one who needs to do more research before you post and embarrass yourself.

NP, but they are talking about population in this thread, right? How would it be " loading the dice to compare MoCo to just one VA jurisdiction"?

DP. Not sure that it would be “loading the dice,” but it sounds like your beef is with the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, which sponsored the study that grouped the various jurisdictions as it did for comparative purposes.

No, you’re confused. No one is talking about the overall populations. Look at maps on pages 24 & 25. There you will see where clusters of Jews live in geographic areas defined by the authors of the report. Within the geographic boundaries of suburban MD and suburban Va, 121,500 Jews live in NoVa and 116,700 live in MD.

Yes, Jewish population. Not overall population of MoCo or some other jurisdiction. Some nitwit posted census data comparing populations of Fairfax county and MoCo to prove that Fairfax County is bigger. Overall population size is irrelevant. The population of Jews living within the geographic zones established in the report is relevant, though. This isn’t that difficult. Come on! You can’t be that dense.

We live within walking distance of both a conservative and orthodox synagogue and our ES (Wakefield Forest) is probably 5 percent Jewish at the most.

If 4% of northern Virginia is Jewish, and the population isn’t randomly scattered, and it’s clearly not, there has to be one or more middle or high school’s that are at least near 10%, Given that there are quite a few that are near 0%.

Actually, you are the one that's dense.
You need to read in context to see why something was mentioned.
Contextual is critical.

Okay, whatever. I don’t have the patience for you. The size of the areas in terms of square miles is what matters, but the total population of counties. The larger the net you cast, the more of the Jewish population you’re going to count. I this regard, MoCo is huge, and it would not be fair to NoVa to just count one jurisdiction against it when MoCo is bigger than any of the NoVa zones in the study.

I am just curious as to why it is important to know were Jewish kids are going to school?

Extremely rare back in the day in Fairfax, when I was usually the only part Jewish kid in classes. Subjected to some vile antisemitic bullying from all kinds of students. Hope it’s changed.

The 1960s? Because my high school in FCPS had a lot of Jewish kids and it was not Woodson or McLean.

Why do you think? Because many people don't want to be the only (black, Jewish, Asian, pick your minority) around. Because they want their children to not feel like freaks.

It has. Read the study. The Jewish population in NoVa has grown by 80% since 2003.
